Short and long-arm fiberglass cast immobilization for displaced distal forearm fractures in children: a randomized controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether short-arm fiberglass cast (SAC) immobilization provides fracture stabilization comparable to that of long-arm cast (LAC) treatment of displaced distal forearm fractures after closed reduction in paediatric patients. ⋯ Fracture immobilization with short-arm fiberglass cast in reduced distal forearm fractures is not inferior to long-arm casts in children four years and older, excluding completely displaced fractures. Furthermore, short-arm casting reduces the need for assistance during showering.

Efficacy of platelet-rich plasma injections in patients with adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder.
The goal of this study is to investigate whether platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are effective in the management of adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder (AC). A triple-blind, randomized controlled trial was designed and conducted in a medical school hospital. ⋯ PRP injections were found to be effective in both pain and disability, and showed improvements in a restricted shoulder due to adhesive capsulitis. These findings might point out PRP as a therapeutic option in the management of adhesive capsulitis.

Does cognitive behavioral education reduce pain and improve joint function in patients after total knee arthroplasty? A randomized controlled trial.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment for reducing the pain of knee osteoarthritis (OA) and improving joint function. However, there are few studies on the effect of CBT on the pain severity after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study investigates the effectiveness of a CBT program on pain, knee function, quality of life, and pain catastrophizing in patients after TKA. ⋯ The CBT program was superior to usual care in reducing post-operative pain during activity from the fifth day to the third month and pain catastrophing in the first three months after TKA but has no statistically significantly differences in pain during rest, knee ROM, EQ-5D, OKS, and HSS.

The antifibrinolytic and anti-inflammatory effects of a high initial-dose tranexamic acid in total knee arthroplasty: a randomized controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a high initial-dose (60 mg/kg) intravenous tranexamic acid (IV-TXA) on fibrinolysis and inflammation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ A high initial-dose (60 mg/kg) IV-TXA before surgery followed by five doses can further reduce blood loss, provide additional fibrinolysis and inflammation control, and ameliorate post-operative pain following TKA, without increasing the risk of treatment-related complications.
