In the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to maximize communication in the scientific and medical community. In the context of academic meetings and conferences, there is the growing need for a set of guidelines secondary to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the growing environmental and economic challenges that large academic and medical conferences face. These Virtual Meetings Best Practices were established in response to the scant evidence and guidance on the topic. ⋯ Given the uncertainty of whether large in-person gatherings will be permitted, advisable or responsible later into the summer of 2020 and beyond, these guidelines will aid events being converted and scheduled as virtual-only meetings. As we move forward in the era of increased utility and utilization of virtual conferencing, these guidelines will serve as a benchmark and standard for surgeons in the field.

Short and long-arm fiberglass cast immobilization for displaced distal forearm fractures in children: a randomized controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether short-arm fiberglass cast (SAC) immobilization provides fracture stabilization comparable to that of long-arm cast (LAC) treatment of displaced distal forearm fractures after closed reduction in paediatric patients. ⋯ Fracture immobilization with short-arm fiberglass cast in reduced distal forearm fractures is not inferior to long-arm casts in children four years and older, excluding completely displaced fractures. Furthermore, short-arm casting reduces the need for assistance during showering.

Options for the treatment of proximal- and middle-thirds of humeral shaft fractures include intramedullary interlocking nail (IMN) and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). However, whether IMN provides better clinical outcomes than MIPO surgical technique still remains unclear. This study was designed to compare clinical outcomes of the IMN with MIPO technique for the treatment of proximal- and middle-thirds of humeral shaft fractures. ⋯ Intramedullary interlocking nail seemed to be superior to minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis in the treatment of proximal- and middle-thirds of humeral shaft fractures due to shorter operative time and union time, less early post-operative pain, and fewer complications. The intramedullary interlocking nail could be considered a better surgical option for the management of proximal middle humeral fractures, though it may also depend on the surgeons' skills and learning curve. Further in-depth prospective studies are in great need to verify our conclusion.

The lockdown imposed in France to cope with the COronaVIrus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has led to major changes in the lifestyle of French citizens. The aim of our study was to study its impact on activity related to emergencies in hand and upper limb trauma in comparison to the same reference period in 2019. ⋯ The lockdown imposed in France has changes the etiologies and the management of hand and upper limb emergencies.

The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of intra-articular calcaneal fractures with medial column displacement treated with different surgical techniques, namely extensile lateral approach (ELA) or sinus tarsi approach (STA), combined with percutaneous medial reduction. ⋯ STA resulted in favourable radiological and clinical results with fewer wound complications and a shorter waiting time when compared to ELA. The percutaneous medial reduction technique is effective in reducing medial column displacement.
