Multicenter Study[Electrical status epilepticus during sleep: a retrospective multi-centre study of 29 cases].
Electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES) is an epileptic syndrome characterised by the presence of very persistent slow spike-wave-type epileptic discharges during non-REM sleep. The management of this pathology, today, is heterogeneous and no controlled studies have been conducted with the treatments employed; similarly, whether or not they improve patients' cognitive development or not has still to be determined. ⋯ The developmental neuropsychological prognosis is usually unfavourable and the cognitive development seems to be related with the duration of ESES and the area where the epileptic activity is concentrated, which suggests that the poor prognosis can be avoided if treatment is established at an early stage. The antiepileptic drugs that are most commonly used are valproic acid, ethosuximide and levetiracetam, and in our milieu clobazam and lamotrigine were commonly employed. The most effective drugs for controlling ESES were corticoids/ACTH, clobazam and levetiracetam.

Multicenter Study Clinical Trial Observational Study[Effectiveness of lacosamide in the treatment of refractory neuropathic pain: an open observational trial].
Although different treatments are available for neuropathic pain, these patients are often refractory, which makes it necessary to test treatments that, as they have proven useful in other pathologies, could be effective in neuropathic pain. ⋯ Treatment with lacosamide in neuropathic pain due to different causes could be considered an effective and well-tolerated alternative for patients who fail to respond to standard treatments.

Multicenter Study[Personality traits in patients with migraine: a multi-centre study using the Salamanca screening questionnaire].
Psychiatric comorbidity is frequent in cases of migraine and research has focused more on that related to affective disorders and anxiety than to personality traits. ⋯ Some of the personality traits that can be detected with the Salamanca questionnaire are very common in patients with migraine. In our series, the anankastic trait is related with the presence of chronic migraine.

Multicenter Study Observational Study[Adaptation and validation of CAMDEX-DS (Cambridge Examination for Mental Disorders of Older People with Down's Syndrome and others with intellectual disabilities) in Spanish population with intellectual disabilities].
Dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease commonly affects the adult population with Down's syndrome. This population presents two characteristic clinical features: a semiologic pattern that differs from the typical Alzheimer's disease, and previous intellectual deficits that may confound the clinical diagnosis. There is a clear need to validate specific instruments adapted to Spanish population. ⋯ The Spanish version of CAMDEX-DS is a valid instrument with high applicability for people with intellectual disability. It shows good psychometric properties. The Cambridge Cognitive Examination for Older Adults with Down's Syndrome (CAMCOG-DS) can set two key points by the level of intellectual disability on the suspicion of cognitive impairment in people with Down's syndrome.

Multicenter Study[Incidence and characteristics of tumours of the central nervous system among the paediatric population of Asturias. New data about an incidence on the rise].
Tumours of the central nervous system (CNS) are one of the most common causes of child mortality, second only to accidents. In the last few decades we have witnessed an increase in the incidence of these tumours, which now stands at 2.5-3.2 cases/100,000 children/year in the population under 15 years of age. ⋯ The incidence of tumours affecting the CNS found in children in Asturias is the highest of those recorded for this age bracket, the clinical features of these patients being similar to those in other studies. We seem to be before new data that confirms the claims of a growing incidence of these tumours.
