Postcardiac injury syndrome (PCIS) is an emerging condition including pericarditis with or without pericardial effusion after an injury to cardiac tissue. Data are lacking on its incidence and clinical predictors after cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) placement. We therefore performed this meta-analysis to determine the incidence of PCIS. ⋯ Our analysis revealed that CIED implantations are associated with a low incidence (0.6%) of pericardial complications at 30 days. Patients with advanced age and prior CABG are high-risk patients for pericardial complications.

Influence of riociguat treatment on pulmonary arterial hypertension : A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Riociguat treatment might be beneficial for pulmonary arterial hypertension. However, the results of studies to date are controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of riociguat treatment on pulmonary arterial hypertension. ⋯ Riociguat treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension led to a significant increase in the 6‑MWD, EQ-5D score, and cardiac index, as well as a decrease in LPH score and PVR.

Effects of limiting fluid intake on clinical and laboratory outcomes in patients with heart failure : Results of a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The guidelines of the Scientific Societies of Cardiology recommend limiting fluid intake as a nonpharmacological measure for the management of chronic heart failure (HF). However, many patients with HF may suffer from severe thirst. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of limiting fluid consumption based on various clinical and laboratory outcomes in patients with chronic HF. ⋯ In patients with HF, liberal fluid consumption does not seem to exert an unfavorable impact on HF rehospitalizations or all-cause mortality. Further randomized controlled trials are warranted to definitively confirm the present findings.

Antithrombotic therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients requiring oral anticoagulant treatment. A meta-analysis.
The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the benefits and risks of triple therapy (TT) compared with dual therapy (DT) for patients with an indication for anticoagulation who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention. ⋯ Our analysis found no statistically significant difference between TT and DT with regard to all-cause death and MACE/stroke risk. At the same time, the available data demonstrated that TT increased the risk of major bleeding. If the international normalized ratio is in the target range, the risk of bleeding may be lowered. The data from Asian countries were limited, and therefore we could not assess the difference between TT and DT in Asian populations. Finally,on the basis of our analysis, we do not recommend TT as conventional treatment for patients taking OACs and undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.

Meta-analysis of association between ALDH2 rs671 polymorphism and essential hypertension in Asian populations.
Mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2) is an enzyme that oxidizes acetaldehyde into acetic acid during alcohol metabolism. Many studies indicate that the rs671 GG genotype in the ALDH2 gene may play a critical role in increasing the risk of essential hypertension (EH) associated with alcohol consumption, which predominantly occurs in men. However, the literature is inconclusive in this regard. This meta-analysis aims to derive a more precise estimation of the relationship between the rs671 polymorphism and EH for both male and female drinkers and nondrinkers. ⋯ Our meta-analysis demonstrates that the rs671 GG genotype increases the risks of EH, especially in men, and is independent of alcohol consumption.
