Prognostic Value of Electrocardiography in Elderly Patients with Acute Pulmonary Embolism.
Electrocardiographic (ECG) signs of right ventricular strain could be used as a simple tool to risk-stratify patients with acute pulmonary embolism. ⋯ ECG signs of right ventricular strain are common in elderly patients with acute pulmonary embolism. Although such signs may have prognostic value, their variable reliability and the rather modest prognostic effect size may limit their usefulness in the risk stratification of pulmonary embolism.

Treatment and Outcomes of Acute Pulmonary Embolism and Deep Venous Thrombosis: The CVRN VTE Study.
Few studies describe both inpatient and outpatient treatment and outcomes of patients with acute venous thromboembolism in the United States. ⋯ In this multicenter, community-based study of patients with acute venous thromboembolism, anticoagulant treatment and outcomes varied by thromboembolism type. Although case fatality during the acute episode was relatively low, 15.4% of people with thromboembolism died within 90 days of the index diagnosis.
