Postgraduate General Practice (GP) training is structured around a formal curriculum set out by the training body. It also includes a "hidden curriculum" of experiential workplace learning in a heterogenous learning environment [1]. There is no formal national annual survey of GP trainees and their views in Ireland. ⋯ The current research findings were broadly positive and supportive of the good work being done in GP training and by trainers in Ireland today. Further research will be needed to validate the study instrument and to further refine some aspects of its configuration. The implementation of such a survey on a regular basis may have merit as part of the quality assurance process in GP education alongside existing feedback structures [2].

Slow gait speed (GS) is a marker of functional decline and overall poor health status and could be considered as possible sarcopenia. Early detection with modified treatable causes is likely to lessen adverse health outcomes in older adults. ⋯ Slow gait speed was frequent among older patients in an outpatient setting indicating of a high prevalence of patients with poor physical performance and impending frailty. Increasing age, presence of CVA, and cognitive decline were associated with slow GS. Interventions concentrating on the amendable factors might help to reduce unfavorable health consequences.

Apnea-related hypoxia, hypercapnia, and blood pressure fluctuations cause production of various proinflammatory cytokines and trigger a vicious cycle that results in vascular endothelial damage and systemic inflammation in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Endothelial function is frequently impaired in OSA even in the absence of significant cardiac or vascular disorders. ⋯ We have demonstrated that elevated endocan and serglycin levels are predictors for OSA. Furthermore, we have showed for the first time in literature that serglycin is correlated with OSA and is an independent predictor for OSA.

Chaperonin-containing TCP1 subunit 6A (CCT6A) facilitates several malignant cancer behaviors, but its regulation of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has not been reported. This study aimed to investigate the effect of CCT6A on cell proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and its interaction with the TGF-β/Smad/c-Myc pathway in ESCC. ⋯ CCT6A facilitates ESCC malignant activities by activating the TGF-β/Smad/c-Myc pathway, which sheds light on the identification of a possible therapeutic target in the management of ESCC.

High-impact sports such as hurling place participants at risk of sport-related concussion (SRC). ⋯ Players appear to be at a higher risk of SRC later in the match or when receiving the sliotar. Strikes to the lateral aspect of the head and those involving the shoulder appear to produce severe events. These findings provide initial guidance for the development of targeted player protection strategies.
