There is no consensus on the number of ligation bands for varying grades of internal hemorrhoids (IH) in a single session of endoscopic rubber band ligation (ERBL). ⋯ The average ERBL treatment of IH requires nearly four bands, and grade II hemorrhoids require less banding than grade III hemorrhoids, while the efficacy was better. Increasing the number of bands improves the treatment efficacy for grade III IH, which could be a strategy to reduce the recurrence rate without increasing postoperative complications.

Comparison of syncope risk scores in predicting the prognosis of patients presenting to the emergency department with syncope.
Various scores have been derived for the assessment of syncope patients in the emergency department (ED). ⋯ The CSRS may be used as a safety risk score for a 30-day risk of MACE and mortality after discharge from the emergency department.

Histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) regulates lipid accumulation, inflammation, endothelial injury, and atherosclerosis to participate in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to explore the value of serum HDAC4 change before and after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) risk in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. ⋯ Serum HDAC4 is decreased from baseline to D1, then elevated until D7, and its increased level correlates with lower MACE risk in ACS patients receiving PCI.

People with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) lose the ability in backward walking which is an important part of mobility in daily life. The 3-m backward walk test (3MBWT) evaluates backward walking; however, its reliability and validity have not been examined in PwPD yet. ⋯ The 3MBWT is a reliable, valid, and easy to administer outcome measure to assess backward walking performance in PwPD, indicating it to be used in practice and research.

Colorectal cancer is a common cause of cancer-related deaths. About 1/3 of all cases present with distant metastasis, with the liver as the leading site and the lung as the most common extra-abdominal site. ⋯ Local interventions that are applied to highly selected patients may improve the survival of metastatic colorectal cancer patients. A close follow-up after local therapies is important to diagnose recurrent disease because repeated local interventions may be possible to achieve better outcomes.
