Insulin resistance and disrupted secretion of adipokines are the major contributors to the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Previous research has indicated that adiponectin/leptin (A/L) and HOMA/adiponectin (H/A) ratios have a strong association with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. The current study aimed to assess the predictability of the A/L and H/A ratios for PCOS women infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). In this study, we investigated the association of A/L and H/A ratios with PCOS, as well as infertility and RPL in Iranian women with PCOS. ⋯ The ratios of A/L and H/A may serve as biomarkers to distinguish women with PCOS from non-PCOS in the Iranian population. However, it seems that they are not discriminatory markers for PCOS-associated RPL and infertility.

To investigate clinical outcomes in patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) after intracapsular implantation of a novel EyeMax Mono macular lens. ⋯ Extended macular vision lenses appear to have a comparable safety profile as standard IOLs in the short to medium term. It could be the preferred lens for improving and preserving visual acuity in moderate to advanced dry AMD patients.

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) participates in the autoimmune disease pathology by regulating T helper (Th) cell differentiation, NF-κB pathway, toll-like receptor 4, etc. This study intended to investigate the association of serum PCSK9 with disease activity, Th cells, and treatment response in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients. ⋯ Serum PCSK9 is positively associated with disease activity and Th17 cells, while its short-term decline reflects desirable treatment response in AS patients.

Molnupiravir is an oral antiviral drug that received Emergency Use Authorization in three countries for the treatment of mild COVID-19. The aim of this systematic review was to find out the safety and efficacy of Molnupiravir in SARS-COV-2 infections. ⋯ Evidence from clinical studies showed that Molnupiravir caused significant reduction in the risk of hospitalization or death in high-risk mild COVID-19 patients. Molnupiravir was also found to be well tolerated and safe without any major adverse events on short-term use. For confirmative use of this drug in mild-to-moderate COVID-19 disease, further studies are required in vaccinated COVID-19 patients and against emerging variants.

Appendiceal schwannoma - report of a case and literature review.
Appendiceal tumours encompass a wide spectrum of differential diagnoses and frequently present with clinical features of appendicitis. We report the case of a 43-year-old woman who presented with epigastric pain, dyspepsia and bloating. An atypical right para-iliac mass was detected on abdominal ultrasound, and computed tomography (CT) identified an appendiceal tumour. ⋯ No personal or family history of underlying neurofibromatosis (NF) type 1 or type 2 has been reported to date. As for other gastrointestinal schwannomas, complete surgical resection is the recommended treatment for appendiceal schwannoma. Following this, despite lack of long-term follow-up, no cases of recurrence have been reported thus far.
