In January 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic started and has severely affected all countries around the world. The clinical symptoms alone are not sufficient for a proper diagnosis. Thus, molecular tests are required. Various institutes and researchers developed real-time PCR-based methods for the detection of the virus. However, the method needs expensive equipment. In the present study, we developed a real-time NASBA assay for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. ⋯ The results of the present study show that the developed real-time NASBA is a sensitive and specific method for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 and is comparable with real-time PCR. NASBA is an isothermal signal amplification method, and if stand-alone fluorescent readers are available, the real-time NASBA can be used without the need for expensive thermocyclers. In addition compared to other isothermal methods like LAMP, the primer design is straightforward. Thus, real-time NASBA could be a suitable method for inexpensive SARS-CoV-2 detection.

Wearing face shields and masks, which used to have very limited public use before the COVID-19 outbreak, has been highly recommended by organizations, such as CDC and WHO, during this pandemic period. ⋯ Although the decrease in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and MAP values is assumed to be caused by increased fatigue due to workload and work pace as well as increase in muscle activity, the increase in PETCO2 levels in the ED healthcare staff working with no breaks between 0 and 4 h should be noted in terms of PPE-induced hypoventilation.

We aimed to explore long-term results of oral antiviral agents in treatment-naïve "HBeAg negative chronic hepatitis B (CHB)" and determine the factors affecting the complete virological response. ⋯ CVR was achieved at similar rates with all four antiviral agents, while younger age (≤ 40) and low baseline viral load were the main factors for virological response. However, drug resistance and virological breakthrough in the LAM group and side effects in the LdT group were detected during the long-term follow-up. Moreover, HBsAg seroclearance was achieved at very low rates with oral antiviral agents.

Burnout among millennial medical students is an important health issue with a possibility of potential professional dissatisfaction. The reason for burnout is multifactorial. The gender of the medical student may play a significant role when choosing a residency specialty and making a career choice. Gender may also influence while establishing the burnout seen in students. Here we tested the association between burnout in medical students based on gender and residency specialty choice during COVID-19. ⋯ More female participants experienced emotional distress, depersonalization or professional disengagement, and psychological and physical stress and exhaustion due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An important association observed in the study was between residency choice and burnout.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is one of the most important birth defects caused by more than one mutated gene. Mutations in the genes could cause different types of congenital heart defects including atrial septal defect (ASD), tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), and ventricular septal defect (VSD). ⋯ Understanding the molecular pathways and genetic basis of CHD will help to open a new door for the treatment of patients with cardiac defects.
