To assess the impacts of prolonged protective face masks (PFM) wear on ocular surface symptoms among healthcare professionals (HCPs), and how these symptoms affected PFM wear. ⋯ PFM-related ocular surface symptoms can be alleviated by properly wearing PFMs, reducing wear time, and using long-acting topical lubricants. This could improve PFM wear compliance, prevent disease transmission, and ultimately help with COVID-19 protection.

According to the available literature, studies examining the relationship between theory of mind (ToM) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have a small sample size and are few in number. ⋯ Lower education level, prosthesis use for a shorter period, and poor mind-reading skills from neutral and total eye expressions were predictive of the potential presence of PTSD in amputees, even though they were largely exposed to similar traumas. Our findings suggest that treatment and follow-up of PTSD should also target deficits in cognitive and emotional abilities.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is one of the most important birth defects caused by more than one mutated gene. Mutations in the genes could cause different types of congenital heart defects including atrial septal defect (ASD), tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), and ventricular septal defect (VSD). ⋯ Understanding the molecular pathways and genetic basis of CHD will help to open a new door for the treatment of patients with cardiac defects.

Efficacy and feasibility of awake proning in patients with COVID-19-related acute hypoxemic respiratory failure: an observational, prospective study.
Most of COVID-19 patients present with hypoxemic respiratory failure. Proning is one of the management options proven to improve oxygenation and reduce mortality in non-COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome. As a response to COVID-19 pandemic surge, a dedicated COVID-19 respiratory ward for the management of mild to moderate ARDS patients who require oxygen therapy, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), or high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) was established. We adopted a policy of early awake proning in such patients. ⋯ Awake proning was feasible, tolerable, and effective in improving oxygenation in patients with COVID-19-related pneumonia and acute hypoxemic respiratory failure in this prospective study.

The anti-tumor effect of polo-like kinase 4 (PLK4) inhibitor has been explored in several neoplasms, while its synergy with bortezomib in multiple myeloma (MM) remains elusive. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of PLK4 inhibitor on the sensitivity of MM to bortezomib treatment and its underlying mechanism. ⋯ PLK4 inhibitor plus bortezomib shows synergy in decreasing cell viability and enhancing cell apoptosis via repressing PI3K/AKT signaling in MM.
