Music has a long-standing place in the operating theatre. Nonetheless, limited studies have investigated the role of music during Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgical procedures. ⋯ Background music can have a calming effect on staff in paediatric elective ENT surgery. This is a decision to be made by the surgical team with direct patient care and, if there is any concern about communication and distraction, then it is to be avoided.

Among one of the common hereditary causes of chronic kidney disease is autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), and its incidence rate is reported as one between 500 and 1.000 individuals. The most common complications of ADPKD are hypertension (HT) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). HT occurring in the early stage of ADPKD leads to deteriorations in renal function. ⋯ We consider that serum IM levels should be assessed in oxidative stress (OS)-related conditions, such as ADPKD, and RAAS blockers may be effective in reducing serum IMA levels in ADPKD and HT patients.

Apatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, inhibits angiogenesis under the tumor hypoxic environment induced by drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE), which is hypothesized to have synergic effect with DEB-TACE in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DEB-TACE plus apatinib in treating huge HCC patients. ⋯ DEB-TACE plus apatinib achieves prolonged PFS and OS, while similar adverse events occurrence compared to DEB-TACE alone in huge HCC treatment.

Patients with postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) have increased risk of both short- and long-term mortality and morbidity; therefore, prediction of POAF is crucial in the preoperative period of the patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Electrocardiography (ECG) is the simplest and cost-effective tool in the preoperative workup of the patients for the prediction of POAF. A newly defined ECG parameter P wave peak time (PWPT) has been shown as a marker of atrial fibrillation development in non-surgical patients and we investigated its role in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ PWPT in leads DII and V1 can predict the development of POAF in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a vasodilator that plays an important role in blood pressure control. The purpose of the present study was to compare the effect of 8 weeks of resistance-interval and endurance-resistance trainings on plasma levels of adropin and NO in males with hypertension. ⋯ Resistance-interval and endurance-resistance trainings are effective in decreasing blood pressure by increasing cardiorespiratory capacity and plasma levels of adropin and NO.
