Intestinal ascariasis is considered as state subject in our valley of Kashmir. The aim of our study was to analyse the age, clinical presentation, diagnosis, surgical complications, and management of Ascaris lumbricoides in children and adults. ⋯ Ascaris lumbricoides is common cause of acute abdomen in our valley attributed to poor hygiene and low socioeconomic background. In patients of high clinical suspicion of worm obstruction, prompt investigations should be advised to reach a definitive diagnosis and prevent the development of complications. Significant efforts must be channelised at political and society levels for the prevention of this disease. Mass deworming programs should be adopted to overcome this menace.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and requires more prognostic biomarkers for precise treatment. GPR39 is a GPCR which can interact with Zn and modulate the colonocytes' survival. The clinical significance of GPR39 in colon cancer has never been reported. ⋯ GPR39 was upregulated in colon cancer tissues compared with tumor-adjacent tissues. GPR39 was an independent prognostic biomarker in colon cancer for poor prognosis. EPCAM and PD-L1 were substantially associated with GPR39 expression, and they were also identified as prognostic biomarkers in colon cancers.

JNK pathway-associated phosphatase (JKAP) is engaged in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology via regulating immune response, cluster of differentiation 4 positive (CD4+) T cell differentiation, inflammation, and phosphorylated tau (p-tau). This study aimed to investigate its clinical value serving as a biomarker for AD. ⋯ JKAP, Th1 cells, and Th17 cells are dysregulated and inter-correlated; among them, JKAP and Th17 cells relate to cognitive impairment progression in AD patients.

Patients with adrenal insufficiency (AI) are treated with glucocorticoid replacement therapy (GRT). Although current glucocorticoid regimens aim to mimic the physiological circadian rhythm of cortisol secretion, temporary phases of hypo- and hypercortisolism are common undesired effects which lead to a variety of consequences like increased cardiovascular risk and premature mortality. Additionally, poor quality of life (QoL) and impaired sleep have been reported. However, little is known about these topics regarding the effects of daily dosage, duration of therapy, and patients with different forms of AI (primary, PAI, and secondary, SAI). ⋯ The present data highlight that poor QoL and impaired sleep are still severe and underrated issues in current GRT and might be additional factors for premature mortality in patients with AI. Some AI patients reach normal or near-normal self-assessed QoL and sleep, even despite unphysiological replacement.

Renal cell carcinoma or RCC is a type of malignancy commonly occurred in the human kidney especially in the adults. The pathogenesis of RCC involves the complex networking of multiple signaling pathways, and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unclear. ⋯ In summary, UBA2 was able to enhance the proliferation, inhibit the apoptosis, and suppress cell cycle arrest in RCC cells by targeting the p53 pathway.
