Type 2 diabetes is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. Use of aspirin has been shown to be of benefit for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes; benefits in primary prevention have not been clearly proven. ⋯ A significant number of people with type 2 diabetes who should have been prescribed aspirin for secondary prevention were not receiving it at the time of study assessment. In contrast, a substantial proportion who did not meet criteria for aspirin use was prescribed it for primary prevention.

The fifth metacarpal fractures are the most common in all of hand fractures. To our knowledge, the classification of the fifth distal metacarpal bone fractures has not been studied. ⋯ This study represented a unique classification system for fractures of the distal part of the fifth metacarpal bone. Categorization in radiographs might provide ideas regarding the prognosis and clinical outcomes of fracture patterns. Therefore, this study could guide future investigations to determine the first-line treatment of fifth distal metacarpal fracture patterns using this classification and help form a common language among surgeons concerning their treatment options.

The negative psychosocial effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare workers are increasing worldwide. ⋯ Psychological support provided to healthcare workers during the ongoing pandemic period will improve their sexual habits and functions negatively affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as their social life with their spouses or partners.

Over the last decade Surgical Stabilisation of Rib Fractures (SSFR) gained popularity in our hospital. With increased numbers, we noted that frequently injuries were missed during primary/secondary survey and radiological imaging that were found during the surgical procedure. With this observation, the research question was formulated: What is the value of diagnostics thoracotomy or thoracoscopy during surgical stabilisation of rib fractures? ⋯ With the recent shift towards surgical stabilisation of rib fractures, an inspection thoracoscopy or thoracotomy during SSFR should be considered to minimise the incidence of missed intrathoracic injuries requiring early or late surgical treatment.

Social restrictions set due to COVID-19 decreased pediatric emergency department (ED). The aim is to report epidemiology of intoxicated patients in pediatric ED during the first and second waves of COVID-19. ⋯ Based on these results, the lockdown and social restrictions did not decrease heavy alcohol or drug consumption among adolescents in Finland.
