Effects of coenzyme Q10 supplementation on statin-induced myopathy: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Statins can trigger a series of muscle-related adverse events, commonly referred to collectively as statin-induced myopathy. Although coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is widely used as a supplement in statin therapy, there is little clinical evidence for this practice. ⋯ The outcomes of this meta-analysis of existing randomized controlled trials showed that supplementation with CoQ10 did not have any significant benefit in improving statin-induced myopathy.

The present study assesses the diagnostic significance of low ferritin levels in gastrointestinal diseases by evaluating the endoscopic findings of patients with low ferritin levels without anemia. ⋯ Helicobacter pylori gastritis and celiac disease were more commonly observed in association with low ferritin levels. Low ferritin levels without anemia can be an early and silent sign of celiac disease.

Acute cholecystitis (AC) is a common emergency condition with severity ranging from mild to severe. Gallstones and critical illnesses are the common predisposing factors. Mild AC is primarily managed with medical therapy and early cholecystectomy. ⋯ There are different approaches to PC. The technical aspects, success, and complications of PC as well as management of cholecystostomy catheter after the patient recovers from the acute episode should be thoroughly understood by the interventional radiologist. We present an extensive up-to-date review of the essential aspects of PC including indications, contraindications, techniques, and outcomes, including complications and success rates.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was first documented in late 2019, but within months, a worldwide pandemic was declared due to the easily transmissible nature of the virus. Research to date on the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 has focused largely on conventional B and T lymphocytes. ⋯ We discuss the potential use of these cells as therapeutic agents in the COVID-19 setting. Due to the rapidly evolving situation presented by COVID-19, there is an urgent need to understand the pathogenesis of this disease and the mechanisms underlying its immune response. Through this, we may be able to better help those with severe cases and lower the mortality rate by devising more effective vaccines and novel treatment strategies.

Historically males have dominated the physician ranks, although in recent years, there has been an increase in the proportion of female doctors to redress this imbalance. With such attention being paid to gender equality in society, this study aimed to characterise the changing prevalence of female authorship of peer-reviewed published research with in the field of gastroenterology. ⋯ Results demonstrated that there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of female authorship of published research in Gastroenterology since 1995. The increasing prevalence of females within the field of academic gastroenterology can therefore be extrapolated to demonstrate the growing numbers of female gastroenterologists in the entire field including clinical and academic gastroenterology.
