Long-term usage of acid suppression drugs like proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 receptor blockers in the elderly population has been found to result in vitamin B12 deficiency. However, the reports are equivocal. ⋯ Prolonged acid suppression therapy with PPIs or H2 blockers may result in serum vitamin B12 deficiency. However, there was no class (PPIs vs. H2 receptor blockers)- or drug (pantoprazole vs. omeprazole vs. ranitidine)-based differences found in the vitamin B12 deficiency caused.

Influenza is an important public health issue, even amongst healthy adults. Uptake rates of the influenza vaccine amongst elite athletes vary and can depend on the attitudes of their coaches, fellow athletes and support staff. International studies have documented a fear amongst elite athletes to the potential side effects of the vaccine. ⋯ Elite Irish athletes are vulnerable to contracting influenza annually, despite free access to immunisation. Barriers to receiving the vaccine include location access, education and fear of side effects.

There has been a considerable amount of research focused upon assessing doctor burnout. However, psychological resilience (PR) has been examined far less frequently. ⋯ The research reported in this paper provides insights in to how healthcare leaders could empower frontline doctors to change how they work in order to allow them to improve their psychological resilience and help them to thrive, rather than just survive.

This study aimed to investigate the correlation of JNK pathway-associated phosphatase (JKAP) with clinical features, inflammation, exacerbation risk, and severity in asthmatic children. ⋯ JKAP serves as a potential biomarker for asthmatic susceptibility, inflammation, exacerbation risk, and severity in children.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a significant disruption in the provision of healthcare globally. The aim of this study was to assess the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the provision of neuro-oncology surgery and comparison with a similar 3-month period in 2019. ⋯ The provision of neuro-oncological surgery can be safely continued during respiratory illness epidemic or pandemic if a rigorous testing and staffing framework is implemented.
