The diagnosis of central pontine hyperintensities on cranial magnetic resonance imaging has wide-spectrum clinical entities, and the pro-type diagnosis of these is central pontine myelinolysis. The rapid changes in extracellular environment due to an imbalance of electrolytes or metabolic or toxic stress to the myelin sheath can cause demyelination of white matter tracts in pons, which is why this situation could have different etiologies than just rapid sodium changes. ⋯ The etiologies of these cases are hypertriglyceridemia, alcohol consumption, antidepressant usage, immunocompromised situations, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, liver and kidney failure, electrolyte changes, and adrenal insufficiency. We aimed to take attention with this case series to the fact that not only fast correction of hyponatremia is the cause of central pontine myelinolysis, but also different etiologies could play a role in this situation, and making the central pontine myelinolysis diagnosis considering different diagnosis is very important.

Artificial Intelligence in pathology: current applications, limitations, and future directions.
Given AI's recent success in computer vision applications, majority of pathologists anticipate that it will be able to assist them with a variety of digital pathology activities. Massive improvements in deep learning have enabled a synergy between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning, enabling image-based diagnosis against the backdrop of digital pathology. AI-based solutions are being developed to eliminate errors and save pathologists time. ⋯ Based on these factors, we elaborate upon the use of AI in medical pathology and provide future recommendations for its successful implementation in this field.

To evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on the frequency and duration of attacks in patients of PFAPA syndrome with low vitamin D levels. ⋯ In PFAPA patients with low vitamin D levels, the frequency and duration of PFAPA attacks were reduced with vitamin D supplementation. Especially at vitamin D level cut-off > 29.7 nmol/L, the frequency of attacks reduced significantly.

Micro-RNA (miRs) targeting kinases and phosphatases regulate the hyper-phosphorylation of tau protein, which is a characteristic feature of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). ⋯ We observed that among all other dysregulated miRs, miR-181c-5p is significantly overexpressed in Alzhimers disease (AD) and CTE. Further, we found that miR-210-3p is also upregulated notably in all groups. In sum, we conclude that these miRs can be considered as potential target and biomarker in the diagnosis and treatment of various tauopathies.

Palliative radiotherapy (PRT) is commonly used to treat symptoms of advanced cancer. PRT has been associated with elevated 30-day mortality (30DM). A Rapid Access Palliative Clinic (RAPC) can streamline the treatment process for patients receiving treatment. ⋯ Referral rates to SPC services and documentation of performance status were low in our 30DM retrospective review cohort. The RAPC facilitated quick treatment turnaround, fewer hospital visits and referral to SPC services.
