Randomized Controlled TrialHigh 5 for Kids: the impact of a home visiting program on fruit and vegetable intake of parents and their preschool children.
The High 5 for Preschool Kids (H5-KIDS) program tested the effectiveness of a home based intervention to teach parents how to ensure a positive fruit-vegetable (FV) environment for their preschool child, and to examine whether changes in parent behavior were associated with improvements in child intake. ⋯ H5-KIDS suggests the need for, and promise of, early home intervention for childhood obesity prevention. It demonstrates the importance of participatory approaches in developing externally valid interventions, with the potential for dissemination across national parent education programs as a means for improving the intake of parents and young children.

Meta AnalysisComputer-delivered interventions for health promotion and behavioral risk reduction: a meta-analysis of 75 randomized controlled trials, 1988-2007.
The use of computers to promote healthy behavior is increasing. To evaluate the efficacy of these computer-delivered interventions, we conducted a meta-analysis of the published literature. ⋯ Computer-delivered interventions can lead to improved behavioral health outcomes at first post-intervention assessment. Interventions evaluating outcomes at extended assessment periods are needed to evaluate the longer-term efficacy of computer-delivered interventions.

Body mass index and cardiovascular disease mortality in Japan: the Ohsaki Study.
Although there is a clear positive association between obesity and the incidence and severity of cardiovascular disease, the association between underweight and cardiovascular disease is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the relation between body mass index (BMI) and cardiovascular disease in Japan, where the proportion of the population that is underweight is relatively high. ⋯ Underweight was substantially associated with hemorrhagic stroke and IHD mortality in Japan, while obesity was associated with increased risk of total cardiovascular disease mortality and mortality from individual cardiovascular diseases.

Physical activity among adults with intellectual disabilities living in community settings.
The aim was to objectively monitor steps accrued by a sample of adults with intellectual disabilities and to describe physical activity patterns by monitoring steps taken across weekdays, weekends, and hours of the day using time-stamped technology. ⋯ Physical activity (steps/day) achieved by the majority of this population is insufficient for health benefits, particularly among individuals with moderate intellectual disability. Evenings and weekends are especially inactive time periods.
