Efficacy of tripterygium glycosides combined with ARB on diabetic nephropathy: a meta-analysis.
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the beneficial and adverse effects of tripterygium glycosides (TGs) combined with angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) on diabetic nephropathy (DN). We searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database up to June 2017. Weighted mean difference (WMD) and standardized mean difference (SMD) were used for continuous variables and all variables were expressed by 95% confidence interval (CI). ⋯ Compared with ARB alone, TG combined with ARB showed no significant difference in improving blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Minor side effects from the combined treatment were observed and mainly focused on the abnormal liver function. TG combined with ARB offers a novel concept in treating DN, more high-quality RCTs are needed for better understanding and applying the combined treatment in DN.

Many studies have been performed to explore the combined effects of glutathione-S-transferase M1 (GSTM1) present/null and cytochrome P4501A1 (CYP1A1) MspI polymorphisms with lung cancer (LC) risk, but the results are contradictory. Two previous meta-analyses have been reported on the issue in 2011 and 2014. However, several new articles since then have been published. In addition, their meta-analyses did not valuate the credibility of significantly positive results. ⋯ These positive findings should be interpreted with caution and results indicate that significant associations may be less-credible, there are no significantly increased LC risk between the combined effects of GSTM1 present/null and CYP1A1 MspI polymorphisms.

SNHG15 has been reported to be aberrantly expressed in various tumor tissues and could serve as a promising prognostic cancer biomarker. Previous studies on SNHG15 yielded inconsistent results with insufficient sampling. Here, a meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the prognostic value of SNHG15 in multiple cancers. ⋯ It revealed that lncSNHG15 might be a promising prognostic biomarker of multiple cancer types, especially in Glioma.

Association between vitamin D receptor BsmI, FokI, and Cdx2 polymorphisms and osteoporosis risk: an updated meta-analysis.
Many studies have reported the association between vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphism and osteoporosis risk. However, their results were conflicting. Six previous meta-analyses have been published to analyze VDR BsmI, FokI, and Cdx2 polymorphisms on osteoporosis risk. However, they did not evaluate the reliability of statistically significant associations. Furthermore, a lot of new articles have been published on these themes, and therefore an updated meta-analysis was performed to further explore these issues. ⋯ These positive findings should be interpreted with caution and indicate that significant association may most likely result from less-credible, rather than from true associations or biological factors on the VDR BsmI and FokI polymorphisms with osteoporosis risk.

Meta-analysis of diagnostic and prognostic value of miR-126 in non-small cell lung cancer.
In recent years, many studies on the relationship between the expression of microRNA-126 (miR-126) and the diagnostic and prognostic value of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have been made, but the results were still controversial. The aim is to explore the expression of miR-126 and the diagnosis and prognosis value of NSCLC, and to provide relevant evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Literature related to miR-126 and NSCLC were searched in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, and Wanfang from the inception to February 2020. ⋯ The results of miR-126 expression and diagnostic value of NSCLC showed that the pooled sensitivity was 0.83 (95% CI: 0.59-0.94), specificity = 0.83 (95% CI: 0.71-0.90), PLR = 4.78 (95% CI: 2.97-7.69), NLR = 0.20 (95% CI: 0.08-0.54), DOR = 23.48 (95% CI: 7.87-70.10), and the area under the summ ary receiver operating characteristic curve (SROC) was 0.89 (95% CI: 0.86-0.91). The results of prognostic value indicated that the expression of miR-126 was related to the OS of NSCLC (HR = 0.79, 95% CI: 0.63-0.98). In conclusion, the expression of miR-126 has medium diagnostic value, and it is related to the prognosis of patients with NSCLC, with poor prognosis of miR-126 low expression.
