Bare platinum coils vs. HydroCoil in the treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms-A single center randomized controlled study.
The HydroCoil Embolic System (HES) was developed to improve aneurysm filling to provide superior occlusion efficacy, reduce retreatment rates and enhance long-term durability. We performed a randomized clinical trial to compare the effectiveness of bare platinum coils (BPC) vs. HES for unruptured intracranial aneurysms. ⋯ Overall, aneurysm size and neck width are the main risk factors associated with aneurysm recurrence. HES compared to BPC required less total number of coils to provide a denser aneurysm filling. However, there were equivocal results with both devices, at the mid-term angiographic follow-up.

Ultra low-dose chest CT using filtered back projection: comparison of 80-, 100- and 120 kVp protocols in a prospective randomized study.
To assess lesion detection and diagnostic image quality of filtered back projection (FBP) reconstruction technique in ultra low-dose chest CT examinations. ⋯ Filtered-back-projection technique allows optimal lesion detection and acceptable image quality for chest-CT examinations at CDTIvol of 0.9 mGy for lung and mediastinal findings in selected sizes of patients.

MR arthrography of the shoulder: do we need local anesthesia?
To assess pain intensity with and without subcutaneous local anesthesia prior to intraarticular administration of contrast medium for magnetic resonance arthrography (MRa) of the shoulder. ⋯ Local anesthesia is not required to lower a patient's pain intensity when applying intra-articular contrast media for MR arthrography of the shoulder. This could result in reduced costs and a reduced risk of adverse reactions, without an impact on patient comfort.

Ovarian torsion: Case-control study comparing the sensitivity and specificity of ultrasonography and computed tomography for diagnosis in the emergency department.
Evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of pelvic ultrasound (US) and abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) for the identification of ovarian torsion in women presenting to the emergency department with acute lower abdominal or pelvic pain. ⋯ The diagnostic performance of CT is not shown to be significantly different from that of US in identifying ovarian torsion in this study. These results suggest that when CT demonstrates findings of ovarian torsion, the performance of another imaging exam (i.e. US) that delays therapy is unlikely to improve preoperative diagnostic yield.

Intraindividual comparison of T1 relaxation times after gadobutrol and Gd-DTPA administration for cardiac late enhancement imaging.
To evaluate T1-relaxation times of chronic myocardial infarction (CMI) using gadobutrol and gadopentetate dimeglumine (Gd-DTPA) over time and to determine the optimal imaging window for late enhancement imaging with both contrast agents. ⋯ This study indicates good delineation of IM to RM with both contrast agents as early as 3 min after administration. However, we found significant differences in T1 relaxation times with greater ΔT1 IM-LVC using 0.15 mmol/kg gadobutrol compared to 0.20 mmol/kg Gd-DTPA after 9-15 min post-CA suggesting earlier differentiability of IM and LVC using gadobutrol.
