The infiltration of the AC joint performed by one specialist: ultrasound versus palpation a prospective randomized pilot study.
The acromio-clavicular (AC) joint is very susceptible to degenerative processes that result in pain and functional impairment. One common modality of treatment has been local infiltration of the joint space. Although this procedure has produced notable positive results, needle misplacement occurs frequently. The aim of this investigation is to evaluate the effects of an intra articular infiltration by comparing precise needle placement into the joint space using high-resolution-ultrasound with the conventional palpation technique. ⋯ Ultrasound guided infiltration of the AC joint is an easily achieved procedure without any complications. However, clinical follow-up did not differ between free-hand and ultrasound-guided AC joint space infiltration.

Comparison of quantitative dynamic susceptibility-contrast MRI perfusion estimates obtained using different contrast-agent administration schemes at 3T.
Absolute cerebral perfusion parameters were obtained by dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) carried out using different contrast-agent administration protocols. Sixteen healthy volunteers underwent three separate DSC-MRI examinations each, receiving single-dose (0.1 mmol/kg b.w.) gadobutrol, double-dose gadobutrol and single-dose gadobenate-dimeglumine on different occasions. DSC-MRI was performed using single-shot gradient-echo echo-planar imaging at 3T. ⋯ The present results showed increased absolute values of CBV and CBF at higher dose, not predicted by the assumption of a quadratic response to contrast-agent concentration in blood. This indicates that the signal components of measured AIFs were not purely of arterial origin and that arterial signal components were more effectively extinguished at higher CA dose. This study also indicates that it may not be completely straightforward to compare absolute perfusion estimates obtained with different CA administration routines.

Percutaneous treatment of non-contained lumbar disc herniation by injection of oxygen-ozone combined with collagenase.
To evaluate the therapeutic results of oxygen-ozone combined collagenase injection for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation compared to the surgery. And to explore the role of this minimally invasive treatment as an alternative to disc surgery. ⋯ The combination of the oxygen-ozone with collagenase shows significant reductions in pain and improvements in function at 3 and 12 months, it can be considered as an option for the treatment of non-contained lumbar disc herniation instead of surgery.

Focal liver lesions: whether a standard dose (0.05 mmol/kg) gadobenate dimeglumine can provide the same diagnostic data as the 0.1 mmol/kg dose.
Gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA) is a liver-specific contrast agent also showing a distribution in the extracellular compartment which is recommended to be used at standard dose (0.05 mmol/kg) in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of liver lesions. However, its use at 0. 1mmol/kg is gradually increasing in recent clinical practice. Which dose should we use in routine MRI of liver lesions from now on? This study investigated the efficacy of Gd-BOPTA at a standard dose versus 0.1 mmol/kg dose in demonstrating diagnostic data in MRI of focal liver lesions. ⋯ In liver lesions, similar diagnostic data are obtained in dynamic and late phase MRI with either standard dose Gd-BOPTA or with a dose of 0.1 mmol/kg. Because there was a difference in only metastases in both groups, in oncological patients who are being investigated for liver metastasis, it is expedient to use a dose of 0.1 mmol/kg.

Efficacy and safety of gadodiamide (Gd-DTPA-BMA) in renal 3D-magnetic resonance angiography (MRA): a phase II study.
To determine the most efficacious dose of gadodiamide for three-dimensional (3D) contrast-enhanced (CE) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of the renal arteries on a patient level based on the sensitivity in detecting the main hemodynamically relevant (> or =50% or occlusion) renal artery stenosis (RAS) using intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IA DSA) as the gold standard. ⋯ A significant dose trend between the four doses examined was observed. The lowest dose (0.01mmol/kg) differed significantly from those of the other three doses. Based on the analysis of the primary and secondary endpoints, 0.1mmol/kg gadodiamide appears to be the most suitable dose in diagnosing hemodynamically relevant RAS. The present study also demonstrated gadodiamide to be safe and well tolerated.
