Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffect of Metoclopramide on the Incidence of Early Postoperative Aspiration Pneumonia in Dogs with Acquired Idiopathic Laryngeal Paralysis.
Evaluate the effect of a perioperative intravenous continuous rate infusion (CRI) of metoclopramide on the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the short term postoperative period in dogs undergoing unilateral arytenoid lateralization. ⋯ Perioperative metoclopramide, at the doses used in this study, did not affect the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the short term postoperative period in dogs with idiopathic laryngeal paralysis undergoing unilateral arytenoid lateralization.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of Short-Term Postoperative Analgesia by Epidural, Femoral Nerve Block, or Combination Femoral and Sciatic Nerve Block in Dogs Undergoing Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy.
To compare early postoperative analgesia in dogs undergoing unilateral tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) that received bupivacaine via preoperative femoral nerve block (FNB), combination femoral-sciatic nerve block (F+SNB), or lumbosacral epidural (EPI). ⋯ In dogs undergoing unilateral TPLO, bupivacaine administered via FNB, alone or in combination with sciatic nerve block, can provide short-term postoperative analgesia not different to that with administration via lumbosacral epidural.

Randomized Controlled TrialOvariectomy in Jenny using subarachnoid propofol administration.
To evaluate the effects of subarachnoid propofol administration (SPA) on analgesia, sedation, ataxia, cardiopulmonary, blood gas variables, and its application in ovariectomy in Jennies. ⋯ SPA was found to be useful, efficient and feasible procedure for ovariectomy through standing flank laparotomy in Jennies.

Randomized Controlled TrialDiagnostic accuracy of tissue impedance measurement interpretation for correct Veress needle placement in canine cadavers.
To establish the diagnostic accuracy of tissue impedance measurement interpretation (TIMI) for determining correct versus incorrect Veress needle placement. ⋯ Diagnostic accuracy of TIMI for Veress needle placement was higher than has been reported for other tests, and TIMI had a shallow learning curve. TIMI successfully detected all incorrect Veress needle placements. Further prospective evaluation of Veress needle placement with and without TIMI is warranted to determine if its use increases operator detection of inappropriate Veress needle placements or decreases installment phase complication rates.

Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of blind thoracoscopic-assisted placement of three double-lumen endobronchial tube designs for one-lung ventilation in dogs.
To describe a technique for blind thoracoscopic-assisted double-lumen endobronchial tube (DLT) placement for achieving one-lung ventilation (OLV) using 3 different DLT designs and to evaluate whether thoracic auscultation could reliably confirm OLV in dogs. ⋯ Blind DLT placement produced successful CC-OLV in all dogs using at least one DLT design evaluated. Use of thoracoscopic assistance may obviate the need for bronchoscopic observation during DLT placement in dogs. However, bronchoscopic observation may still refine DLT positioning in dogs after blind thoracoscopic-assisted DLT placement.
