Multicenter Study[Regional survey of peripheral nerve block practice by French residents.]
There are limited data on peripheral nerve block (PNB) practices by residents in France, especially with after introduction of ultrasound. A survey was conducted on PNB practices by French residents. ⋯ The majority of procedures performed by the residents are using ultrasound. The procedure is usually fast, requiring mainly a single puncture and has a high rate of success.

Multicenter Study[French survey on perioperative nutrition in cirrhotic adult patients waiting for liver transplantation].
The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (EPSEN) guidelines on nutrition for liver disease patients has been recently updated. The aim of our study was to evaluate perioperative nutrition in cirrhotic patients waiting for liver transplantation (LT). ⋯ Perioperative nutritional practices in cirrhotic patients waiting for LT are heterogeneous between centers, especially about nutrition assessment. Most of the centres did not follow the actual guidelines.

Multicenter Study[National survey on short-term circulatory and/or respiratory support in 2009].
Indications for short-term circulatory and/or respiratory support (STCRS) increased during the last years. The goal of this survey was to characterize this activity in France in 2009. ⋯ STCRS has increased over the last few years in France. Externalized activity outside the operating theater was important, time-consuming and used hospital resources therefore modifying the professional activity of perfusionists.

Multicenter Study[Magnesium sulfate in the prophylaxis of eclampsia: a retrospective study].
The use of magnesium sulfate (MgSO(4)) has been advocated since 2000 in France in the management of eclampsia. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of use of this treatment for eclampsia in a French department. ⋯ In this study, the use of MgSO(4) in the secondary prevention is frequent. This result emphasizes the importance of the recommendations of learned societies in the homogenization of the management of rare but serious conditions such as eclampsia.

Multicenter Study[Use of indicators of fluid responsiveness in septic shock: a survey in public emergency departments].
Fluid therapy is one of the major elements of severe sepsis and septic shock management. A systematic initial fluid bolus is recommended before evaluation of left ventricular filling pressure by the use of indicators of fluid responsiveness, preferentially dynamic ones. A massive fluid therapy could be damaging for the patient. Dynamic indicators of fluid responsiveness are not often relevant in the emergency department. This study was aimed to evaluate the use of indicators of fluid responsiveness by emergency practitioners during septic shock management. ⋯ Emergency practitioners use preferentially less invasive and less time-consuming indicators of fluid responsiveness.
