Observational Study[Tracheostomy in French ICUs and patient outcome: National opinion survey.]
Tracheostomy is a frequent procedure in ICU but patient follow-up and management after ICU has been poorly documented. We conducted a practice survey in French general ICUs and in neurointensive care units concerning tracheostomized ICU patients and their management after ICU. ⋯ Tracheostomy is a frequent procedure, mostly percutaneous. Indications and timing for tracheostomy correspond to the recommendations. Reported difficulties in post-ICU management are important and present nationwide.

Observational StudyImpact of a goal-directed therapy protocol on postoperative fluid balance in patients undergoing liver transplantation: A retrospective study.
Liver transplantation carries major risks during the perioperative period. Few studies focused on the hemodynamics of patients undergoing liver transplantation. The present study was aimed to evaluate the impact of the implementation of a protocol including goal-directed therapy in patients undergoing liver transplantation. Our first goal was to determine its impact on the fluid balance. Secondarily, we evaluated possible improvements in the patient outcomes. ⋯ For patients undergoing liver transplantation, the implementation of a protocol aiming to optimize hemodynamics was associated with reduced fluid balance and decreased requirement for mechanical ventilation and postoperative ileus duration.

Incidence and prediction of inadequate preoxygenation before induction of anaesthesia.
Preoxygenation aims to obtain an expired oxygen fraction (FEO2)≥90%. Little is known about the incidence and predictors of inadequate preoxygenation in the clinical setting. ⋯ Inadequate preoxygenation, defined as an FEO2 <90% despite 3-min tidal volume breathing, was a common occurrence. The predictive factors share an overlap with those previously identified for difficult mask ventilation.

Case Reports[Cardiac arrest secondary to pacemaker dysfunction during general anesthesia in a young adult patient.]
The number of patients with cardiac pacemaker is continuously increasing. The anesthetic management of these patients is often trivialized, particularly during minor surgery. ⋯ We report a case of cardiac arrest during general anesthesia for a day-surgery secondary to pacemaker dysfunction by increasing pacing thresholds in a young adult patient. Rapid onset after induction, without any surgical stimulation, has raised the question of the involvement of anesthetic drugs like propofol.

Case Reports[One-lung ventilation in a patient with a tracheal bronchus.]
We report a patient in whom a tracheal bronchus was discovered intraoperatively during an endoscopy control. This observation led us to a focus on what to do in such cases.
