Multicenter Study[Impact of Sfar experts' conference entitled "Modalities of sedation and/or analgesia in hospital setting"].
In 1999, the Société française d'anesthésie et de réanimation (Sfar) published guidelines regarding sedation in prehospital setting. The recommendated protocol for emergency intubation was the rapid sequence induction (RSI). The aim of this study was to assess the impact of these guidelines on clinical practices. ⋯ The Sfar guidelines regarding sedation in prehospital setting seem to meet a good compliance in clinical practice.

Multicenter Study[Cross-sectional survey of anaesthetic practices in Catalonia, Spain].
The aim of this is study was to describe the epidemiology of anaesthesia practice in Catalonia, Spain, in 2003. ⋯ Females, older patients, or those with poor physical status make high demands on resources, as do procedures in obstetrics, orthopaedics and ophthalmology. These needs must be planned for in the organization of services and training.

Multicenter Study[Peripheral nerve block in orthopaedic surgery: multicentric evaluation of practicing professionals and impact on the activity of the recovery room].
Since the last national survey on evaluation of professional practice in France, many peripheral nerve blocks techniques were developed. The aim of this study was to assess the place of such techniques and their impact on the stay in recovery room after orthopaedic surgery. ⋯ This survey confirms that peripheral nerve block became widely used in orthopaedic surgery. This decreases the medical workload in PACU, especially for distal upper limb surgery. Regional anaesthetic techniques must be well taught during formation cursus of residents.

Multicenter Study[ICU performance: results of a French study involving 80,000 ICU stays].
The Standard Mortality Ratio (SMR), comparing the observed in-hospital mortality to the predicted, may measure the intensive care units (ICU) performance. ⋯ The case mix must be taken in account when comparing the ICUs performance by the mean of SMR, particularly when the units admitted a lot of drug overdoses.
