Healthcare providers' attitude and knowledge regarding medication use in breastfeeding women: a Jordanian national questionnaire study.
Medication use among women who have recently given birth is unavoidable in some situations. The aim of this study was to assess the attitude and knowledge of healthcare providers (HCPs) in Jordan about the safe use of medications during breastfeeding. The data were collected from HCPs in maternal and children care centres and hospitals from April 2015 to January 2016, using a self-administered questionnaire. ⋯ What the results of this study add: Healthcare providers in Jordan have variable attitudes regarding the safety of medication use during breastfeeding. The majority of healthcare providers have a low level of knowledge regarding the safe use of medication during breastfeeding. Nurses are more likely to have low knowledge as compared to physicians.

Should ovaries be removed or not in early-stage cervical adenocarcinoma: a multicenter retrospective study of 105 patients.
The study population consisted of 105 patients with stage IA to IIB cervical adenocarcinoma (AC) who underwent radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy from three institutions between 1994 and 2015, including 86 patients with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) and 19 patients with ovarian preservation operation. Ovarian metastasis were diagnosed in 3 of 86 patients in BSO group with an incidence rate of 3.5% (3/86). Among the 19 patients with ovarian preservation, none developed an ovarian recurrence in the follow-up (2-71 months). ⋯ Our univariate analysis with clinicopathologic variables revealed that only FIGO stage was the risk factor associated with ovarian metastasis of cervical AC. Our data implied that ovarian preservation in young women with early-stage cervical AC might be safe and not associated with an increased risk of overall mortality. Considering the deleterious effects of surgical castration on the long-term quality and quantity of life, we hold that ovarian preservation should be seriously considered in the surgical management of premenopausal women with early-stage cervical AC.

Characteristics of women with nausea and vomiting of pregnancy who chose to continue compassionate use of placebo after a randomised trial.
The placebo effect has not been characterised in pregnant women suffering from nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP). Our aim was to characterise determinants of the placebo effect in women treated with placebo for NVP. We analysed data from a multicentre, double blind randomised controlled trial of Diclectin (delayed release doxylamine and pyridoxine) vs placebo for the treatment of NVP. ⋯ Women who chose to continue placebo on a compassionate basis (n = 41) had significantly better improvement in symptoms of NVP and higher Wellbeing scores than those who did not ask to continue compassionate use. Results were similar in the active drug arm. The request to continue compassionate use of either placebo or active drug could be predicted by greater improvement in symptoms of NVP during the trial period.
