Norepinephrine versus epinephrine for hemodynamic support in post-cardiac arrest shock: A systematic review.
The preferred vasopressor in post-cardiac arrest shock has not been established with robust clinical outcomes data. Our goal was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing rates of in-hospital mortality, refractory shock, and hemodynamic parameters in post-cardiac arrest patients who received either norepinephrine or epinephrine as primary vasopressor support. ⋯ The vasopressor with the best mortality and hemodynamic outcomes in post-cardiac arrest shock remains unclear. Randomized studies are crucial to remedy this.

Flexor tenosynovitis (FTS) is a deep space infection of an upper extremity digit which carries a high rate of morbidity. ⋯ An understanding of the presentation and risk factors for development of FTS can assist emergency clinicians in diagnosing and managing this disease in an expedited fashion.

>50,000 people died in the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye. The aim of this study was to identify the factors affecting mortality rates of the trauma patients who were presented to the emergency department (ED) after the earthquake and provide suggestions for better preparedness strategies for future natural disasters. ⋯ In the aftermath of a devastating earthquake, this study underscores the formidable challenges faced by healthcare systems during natural disasters. To prepare for future disasters, healthcare systems must enhance resilience, develop rapid identification techniques, and adopt a holistic patient care approach.

Many patients who are admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) have needs which rapidly resolve and are discharged alive within 24 h. We sought to characterize the outcomes of critically ill trauma victims at our institution with a short stay in the ICU. ⋯ We found that 17% of patients who were intubated in the prehospital setting or emergency department and subsequently hospitalized were discharged alive from the ICU within 24 h.
