Review Meta Analysis
[Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty for the management of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures: a systematic review].
We evaluated the efficacy and safety of kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty using the data presented in recently published papers with respect to pain relief, function, complication rate, and incidence of new vertebral fractures. ⋯ Both procedures seem to be equally effective, but kyphoplasty is safer than vertebroplasty. New results, specifically from RCTs comparing the two procedures, are needed to provide more definitive data.

Comparative Study Controlled Clinical Trial
[Implementation of standardized postoperative pain therapy for orthopaedic patients. Comparison between unsystematic and standardized pain therapy].
The painless clinic and postoperative pain therapy are currently major issues in the management of surgical procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the benefit of a standardized pain therapy on the postoperative pain level after orthopaedic procedures. ⋯ The implementation of a standardized pain therapy is successful in reducing postoperative pain. Mobility and mental disposition are also influenced positively. As a consequence the incidence of unwanted side effects is rising.

Modular parts in femoral components used for hip arthroplasty are reported to be predilection sites for mechanical failure. The possible benefit of their use is therefore controversial. ⋯ Because of the achieved results the use of the modular stem investigated in this study can be classified as safe and effective for revision hip arthroplasty. The interchangeable neck proved to be a useful completion of the revision system.

For the more than 330.000 patients/year with primary total hip replacement (THR) or total knee replacement (TKR) in Germany alone, postoperative rehabilitation either on an inpatient or follow-up outpatient basis is largely accepted as standard, despite limited financial resources. The present article discusses the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic measures in the immediate postoperative phase in the hospital or clinic, the so-called post-inpatient phase in a rehabilitation clinic or centre, as well as the subsequent outpatient phase with consistent and regular specialist follow-up.

Multicenter Study Clinical Trial
[Effective pain relief facilitates exercise therapy : Results of a multicenter study with controlled-release oxycodone in patients with movement pain].
The efficacy and tolerability of oral controlled-release oxycodone in the therapy of musculoskeletal pain were analyzed in this observational study. ⋯ The therapy of pain of the musculoskeletal system with controlled-release oxycodone is efficient. An effective pain relief makes physical therapy practicable, reduces the impairment in different parts of life, and increases quality of life.
