Risk factors and outcomes of in-hospital cardiac arrest following pediatric heart operations of varying complexity.
Multi center data regarding cardiac arrest in children undergoing heart operations of varying complexity are limited. ⋯ This study suggests that the patients undergoing high complexity operations are a higher risk group with increased prevalence of post-operative cardiac arrest. These data further suggest that patients undergoing high complexity operations can be rescued after cardiac arrest with a high survival rate.

NT-proBNP in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: Results from the FINNRESUSCI Study.
To assess whether the established cardiovascular biomarker N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) provides prognostic information in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation (OHCA-VT/VF). ⋯ NT-proBNP levels at 24h improved risk assessment for poor outcome after one year on top of established risk indices, while hs-TnT measurements did not further add to risk prediction.

Targeted therapeutic mild hypercapnia after cardiac arrest: A phase II multi-centre randomised controlled trial (the CCC trial).
In intensive care observational studies, hypercapnia after cardiac arrest (CA) is independently associated with improved neurological outcome. However, the safety and feasibility of delivering targeted therapeutic mild hypercapnia (TTMH) for such patients is untested. ⋯ In CA patients admitted to the ICU, TTMH was feasible, appeared safe and attenuated the release of NSE compared with TN. These findings justify further investigation of this novel treatment.

To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of an abrupt and sustained increase in end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) to indicate return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) during resuscitation of patient with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. ⋯ The feature of an abrupt rise of ETCO2 was a specific but non-sensitive marker of ROSC in patient with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

The optic nerve sheath diameter as a useful tool for early prediction of outcome after cardiac arrest: A prospective pilot study.
Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurement could detect increased intracranial pressure, and might predict outcome in post-cardiac arrest (CA) patients. We assessed the ability of bedside ONSD ultrasonographic measurement performed within day 1 after CA occurrence to predict in-hospital survival in patients treated with therapeutic hypothermia (TH). ⋯ ONSD seems a promising tool to early assess outcome in post-CA patients treated with TH.
