Randomized Controlled Trial
The influence of residual neuromuscular block on the incidence of critical respiratory events. A randomised, prospective, placebo-controlled trial.
Post-operative residual paralysis is associated with a greater incidence of desaturation in the post-anaesthesia care unit.

Myocardial oxidative stress protection by sevoflurane vs. propofol: a randomised controlled study in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
Myocardial oxidative stress plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of ischaemia-reperfusion injury associated with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Both propofol and volatile anaesthetics have been shown to reduce reactive oxygen species in experimental and clinical studies. ⋯ In patients undergoing off-pump CABG, sevoflurane showed better antioxidative properties than propofol.

Success rates and endotracheal tube insertion times of experienced emergency physicians using five video laryngoscopes: a randomised trial in a simulated trapped car accident victim.
No randomised controlled trial has yet compared different video laryngoscopes in respect of the success rates and the time taken to achieve endotracheal intubation in trapped car accident victims. ⋯ When attempting to intubate a trapped car accident victim, video laryngoscopes provide a better view of the glottis, but some delay tracheal intubation significantly. The devices with a tube guide (Airtraq and Ambu Pentax AWS) enable tracheal intubation to be achieved significantly faster and with a lower failure rate than devices without a tube guide. No video laryngoscope outperformed direct laryngoscopy with a Macintosh laryngoscope in this simulation study.

The effect of paracetamol on postoperative nausea and vomiting during the first 24 h after strabismus surgery: a prospective, randomised, double-blind study.
Strabismus surgery is one of the most common ophthalmic surgical procedures in children and is associated with significant postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). ⋯ Intraoperative administration of intravenous paracetamol decreases the incidence of PONV during the first 24 h in children after strabismus surgery.

Do intraoperative analgesics influence oncological outcomes after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer?
The potential impact of intraoperative analgesics on oncological outcome after radical prostatectomy is debated. Some investigators have suggested that use of opioids favour relapse, whereas regional analgesia and NSAIDs improve oncological outcomes. ⋯ This retrospective analysis suggests that intraoperative sufentanil administration is associated with an increased risk of cancer relapse after RRP, whereas epidural analgesia, with local anaesthetic and opioid, was not associated with a significant effect.
