Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
The effect of immediate postoperative Boussignac CPAP on adverse pulmonary events after thoracic surgery: A multicentre, randomised controlled trial.
The effectiveness of prophylactic continuous positive pressure ventilation (CPAP) after thoracic surgery is not clearly established. ⋯ Prophylactic CPAP decreased the incidence of the composite endpoint 'postoperative atelectasis + pneumonia' without increasing the incidence of the endpoint 'postoperative persistent air leaks + pneumothorax'.

Incidence of gastric insufflation at high compared with low laryngeal mask cuff pressure in a first-generation laryngeal mask detected by ultrasound: A randomised controlled cross-over trial.
The success of ventilation with a laryngeal mask depends crucially on the seal between the mask and the periglottic tissue. Increasing the laryngeal mask's cuff volume is known to reduce oral air leakage but may lead to gastric insufflation. ⋯ The study was registered in the German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS00010583) https://www.drks.de.

Effect of bevel direction on the tracheal tube pathway during nasotracheal intubation: A randomised trial.
For nasotracheal intubation, the nasal pathway between the inferior turbinate and hard palate (lower pathway) is preferred for patient safety. However, selecting the lower pathway can be challenging because passage of the tube through the nasal pathway is usually performed blindly. ⋯ Facing the bevel of the tracheal tube in the cephalad direction of the patient facilitated selection of the lower pathway and reduced the incidence of epistaxis during nasotracheal intubation in patients undergoing oromaxillary surgery.
