Randomized Controlled Trial
Cost-effectiveness of a stepped care intervention to prevent depression and anxiety in late life: randomised trial.
There is an urgent need for the development of cost-effective preventive strategies to reduce the onset of mental disorders. ⋯ The prevention programme generated depression- and anxiety-free survival years in the older population at affordable cost.

Economic evaluation of online computerised cognitive-behavioural therapy without support for depression in primary care: randomised trial.
Evidence about the cost-effectiveness and cost utility of computerised cognitive-behavioural therapy (CCBT) is still limited. Recently, we compared the clinical effectiveness of unsupported, online CCBT with treatment as usual (TAU) and a combination of CCBT and TAU (CCBT plus TAU) for depression. The study is registered at the Netherlands Trial Register, part of the Dutch Cochrane Centre (ISRCTN47481236). ⋯ On balance, CCBT constitutes the most efficient treatment strategy, although all treatments showed low adherence rates and modest improvements in depression and quality of life.

Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a stepped care intervention for alcohol use disorders in primary care: pilot study.
Screening for alcohol use disorders identifies a wide range of needs, varying from hazardous and harmful drinking to alcohol dependence. Stepped care offers a potentially resource-efficient way of meeting these needs, but requires evaluation in a randomised controlled trial. ⋯ Stepped care was feasible to implement in the primary care setting and resulted in greater cost savings compared with minimal intervention.

Cognitive-behavioural therapy v. social activity therapy for people with psychosis and a history of violence: randomised controlled trial.
Aggression and violence are serious problems in schizophrenia. Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) has been shown to be an effective treatment for psychosis although there have been no studies to date evaluating the impact of CBT for people with psychosis and a history of violence. ⋯ Cognitive-behavioural therapy targeted at psychosis and anger may be an effective treatment for reducing the occurrence of violence and further investigation of its benefits is warranted.

Efficacy and safety of pregabalin in elderly people with generalised anxiety disorder.
Pregabalin is a novel compound that has been shown to have efficacy in the treatment of generalised anxiety disorder and is licensed for the treatment of the disorder in the European Union. ⋯ Pregabalin, in doses of 150-600 mg/day, was a safe and effective treatment of generalised anxiety disorder in patients 65 years and older. The anxiolytic efficacy of pregabalin had an early onset (by 2 weeks) and significantly improved both psychic and somatic symptoms of anxiety.
