Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of Lidocaine Gel-Assisted Transconjunctival and Transcutaneous Local Anesthesia for Outpatient Eyelid Surgery.
Determine whether transconjunctival local anesthesia using 2% lidocaine gel decreases pain perception in comparison with transcutaneous anesthesia in patients undergoing outpatient eyelid surgery. ⋯ Transconjunctival local anesthesia in conjunction with topical anesthesia with 2% lidocaine gel provides a clinically and statistically significant decrease in perceived pain when compared with transcutaneous anesthesia in patients undergoing outpatient eyelid surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialPerioperative pregabalin for attenuation of postoperative pain after eyelid surgery.
To examine the effect of a 1-time dose of pregabalin (Lyrica) on the perception of pain and analgesic consumption after oculofacial plastic surgery. ⋯ Pregabalin is effective in reducing postoperative pain after oculoplastic procedures when compared with placebo. It may be a useful adjunct for pain control in selected patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyProspective randomized evaluation of short-term complications when using buffered or unbuffered lidocaine 1% with epinephrine for blepharoplasty surgery.
To determine whether there is a difference in the incidence of short-term complications using plain lidocaine with epinephrine versus the buffered equivalent in eyelid surgery. ⋯ There were no significant differences in postoperative pain, swelling, or bleeding with the use of plain versus buffered lidocaine in eyelid surgery. There was a trend for the buffered anesthetic to cause less pain on injection.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of vapocoolants (topical skin refrigerants) to induce skin anesthesia and relieve patient anxiety and pain prior to cosmetic botulinum injections. ⋯ Vapocoolants represent a safe and effective means to reduce patient discomfort and anxiety before and during botulinum toxin type A treatments for glabellar area indications.
