Observational StudyDysphagia and associated clinical markers in neurologically intact children with respiratory disease.
The identification of oropharyngeal aspiration is paramount since it can have negative consequences on a compromised respiratory status. Our hypothesis was that dysphagia in neurologically intact children with respiratory disease is associated to specific clinical markers. ⋯ Our data indicate that neurologically intact children with respiratory disease who were submitted to prolonged OTI (ie, over 48 h) should be prioritized for receiving a detailed swallowing assessment.

Our therapeutic approach to a habit/tic cough is simple reassurance in a single consultation. To quality assure our practice, we followed up children to determine outcomes at least 3 months after diagnosis. ⋯ Habit cough can be diagnosed from the characteristic history; the crucial question is whether the cough disappears during sleep. We have shown successful long term outcomes following a single consultation with simple reassurance, but it is important that the child and parents believe the explanation. It is not uncommon for subsequent tic disorders or behavioral issues to emerge.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyNebulized hypertonic saline in infants hospitalized with moderately severe bronchiolitis due to RSV infection: A multicenter randomized controlled trial.
The efficacy of nebulized hypertonic saline (HS) therapy for shortening hospital length of stay (LOS) or improving bronchiolitic symptoms remains controversial. Most studies enrolled small numbers of subjects and did not consider the role of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the most common cause of acute bronchiolitis. Our aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nebulized HS therapy for acute bronchiolitis due to RSV in moderately ill hospitalized infants. ⋯ Nebulized HS therapy did not significantly reduce LOS among infants with bronchiolitis due to RSV.

Regional lung function testing in children using electrical impedance tomography.
To evaluate regional lung function in lung-healthy children before and after exercise challenge using electrical impedance tomography (EIT). ⋯ Global and regional lung functions were not affected by exercise in lung-healthy children. Exercise did not increase ventilation inhomogeneity. The obtained EIT-derived regional lung parameters can serve as reference values for future studies in children with lung diseases.
