No physician gender difference in prescription of sick-leave certification: a retrospective study of the Skaraborg Primary Care Database.
The primary objective was to investigate how physicians' gender and level of experience affects the rate and length of sick-leave certificate prescription. The secondary objective was to study the physicians' gender and professional experience in relation to the diagnoses on the certificates. ⋯ Contrary to earlier studies we found no difference in sick-leave certification prescription rate and length between male and female physicians.

Antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes in an area with low prevalence of antibiotic resistance: compliance with national guidelines.
To examine antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes and determine to what degree the prescribing was in accordance with the national guidelines for antibiotic prescribing. ⋯ Guidelines for antibiotic use must be implemented actively and efforts to improve antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes must be aimed at both nursing home and hospital physicians.

Randomized Controlled TrialDrug treatment in the elderly: an intervention in primary care to enhance prescription quality and quality of life.
The aim of the study was to assess the effect on prescription quality and quality of life after intervention with prescription reviews and promotion of patient participation in primary care. ⋯ The intervention seems to have had no effect on quality of prescriptions or quality of life. This underlines the major challenge of finding new strategies for improving prescription quality to improve patient outcome measures such as quality of life and reduce the known risks of polypharmacy for the elderly.
