Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyGeneral practitioners trained in motivational interviewing can positively affect the attitude to behaviour change in people with type 2 diabetes. One year follow-up of an RCT, ADDITION Denmark.
To examine whether training GPs in motivational interviewing (MI) can improve type 2 diabetic patients' (1) understanding of diabetes, (2) beliefs regarding prevention and treatment, and (3) motivation for behaviour change. ⋯ MI improved type 2 patients' understanding of diabetes, their beliefs regarding treatment aspects, their contemplation on and motivation for behaviour change. Whether our results can be sustained long term and are clinically relevant in terms of changes in risk profile advocates further research.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyPivmecillinam versus sulfamethizole for short-term treatment of uncomplicated acute cystitis in general practice: a randomized controlled trial.
To investigate whether short-term treatment with pivmecillinam was more effective than sulfamethizole in patients with acute uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI). ⋯ Patients treated with a three-day regime of pivmecillinam experienced faster relief of symptoms compared with patients treated with a three-day regime of sulfamethizole. Five days after initiation of treatment there was no significant difference in clinical and bacteriological cure between the two antibiotic regimes.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of anti-secretory factor (ASF) on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). A double-blind, randomized study.
To evaluate the role of the endogenous protein anti-secretory factor (ASF) on the symptoms, especially loose stools, in irritable bowel ayndrome (IBS). ⋯ Both study groups improved significantly on the VAS but no additive effect was seen for the active treatment. In the sub-group with loose stools, the SPC diet induced ASF plasma levels in IBS patients and was correlated to significant symptom improvement in the individual patient.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyRecognition of fasting or overall hyperglycaemia when starting insulin treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes in general practice.
The efficacy of various regimens of initial insulin treatment in poorly controlled type 2 diabetes was compared with regard to diurnal glucose variation. ⋯ Not all poorly controlled type 2 diabetic patients should automatically be treated with an oral agent and bedtime insulin. Two daily insulin injections is a valid choice, particularly if the patient has overall hyperglycaemia.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEffects of treatment with a commercially available St John's Wort product (Movina) on cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia treated with simvastatin.
To assess the effect of treatment with a St John's Wort product (Movina) on cholesterol levels (total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol) in patients with hypercholesterolemia on treatment with a stable dose of simvastatin. ⋯ Products containing St John's Wort should not be given to patients with hypercholesterolemia who are on treatment with simvastatin.
