Review Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Comparison of oropharyngeal leak pressure and clinical performance of LMA ProSeal™ and i-gel® in adults: Meta-analysis and systematic review.
A meta-analysis and systematic review of randomized controlled trials to compare the oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP) and clinical performance of LMA ProSeal™ (Teleflex® Inc., Wayne, PA, USA) and i-gel® (Intersurgical Ltd, Wokingham, UK) in adults undergoing general anesthesia. ⋯ LMA ProSeal™ provides superior airway sealing compared to i-gel®.

The role of the induction of mild hypothermia in adult patient outcomes after cardiac arrest: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies.
To determine whether patients with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) following cardiac arrest who received mild hypothermia have improved mortality and neurological outcomes compared with those who do not receive mild hypothermia. ⋯ On the basis of this limited data set, mild hypothermia does not improve mortality rates or neurological outcomes in patients with ROSC after cardiac arrest, regardless of the timing of the hypothermia. Larger trials need to be carried out to confirm these findings.

Tourette's syndrome is a complex neuropsychiatric disorder, characterized by tics. Bilateral globus pallidus internus (GPi) deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been considered to be an effective treatment for refractory Tourette's syndrome. Postoperative outcomes are described after 12 months' follow-up in a 41-year-old male patient and a 22-year-old male patient with Tourette's syndrome, both of whom underwent unilateral electrode implantations into the right GPi for DBS. ⋯ Both patients also experienced reductions in tic frequency and reported improvements in their health-related quality of life. Improvements in tics were similar to previous reports involving patients who underwent bilateral GPi DBS. These cases suggest that unilateral DBS of the right GPi is effective and might be a viable surgical choice for some patients with Tourette's syndrome.

Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) is an alternative interbody fusion procedure in which interbody space is accessed via a path that runs through the far lateral portion of the vertebral foramen. TLIF reduces the potential complications of other approaches, including the transabdominal approach or posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), but still achieves clinical outcomes and circumferential fusion results comparable with PLIF. ⋯ Various instrumentation techniques and graft materials are available to use in TLIF, and each option has benefits and disadvantages. Further research is needed, however, TLIF with one cage and excised local bone and augmented with a bilateral pedicle screw seems to be an effective and affordable treatment.
