Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparative clinical trial of topical anesthetic agents in cataract surgery: lidocaine 2% gel, bupivacaine 0.5% drops, and benoxinate 0.4% drops.
To assess the efficacy of lidocaine gel, bupivacaine drops, and benoxinate drops as topical anesthetic agents in cataract surgery. ⋯ Lidocaine gel was a better topical anesthetic agent than bupivacaine and benoxinate drops. Bupivacaine drops were effective in providing deep topical anesthesia.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialEffect of topical brinzolamide 1% and brimonidine 0.2% on intraocular pressure after phacoemulsification.
To compare the effectiveness of brinzolamide 1% (Azopt) and brimonidine 0.2% (Alphagan) with a placebo in preventing an early increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) after phacoemulsification. ⋯ Prophylactic use of 1 drop of brinzolamide or brimonidine was not more effective than a placebo in controlling early postoperative IOP elevations after clear corneal phacoemulsification.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEffect of midazolam on anxiety level and pain perception in cataract surgery with topical anesthesia.
To study the effect of sedation on patients' anxiety level and perception of pain during cataract surgery under topical anesthesia. ⋯ Patients who had cataract surgery under topical anesthesia were highly satisfied with their operative experience and reported minimal pain during surgery. Anxiety levels diminished after arrival at the hospital, possibly because of reassurance by experienced staff. Intravenous midazolam did not seem to significantly reduce pain or anxiety.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEfficacy of brimonidine 0.2% in controlling acute postoperative intraocular pressure elevation after phacoemulsification.
To determine the efficacy of brimonidine tartrate 0.2% drops given 2 times a day in reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes during the first 24 hours after phacoemulsification cataract surgery. ⋯ Prophylactic treatment with brimonidine tartrate 0.2% 2 times a day for 2 days was effective in reducing IOP peaks throughout the first 24 hours after phacoemulsification surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialIntracameral mydriatics in phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
To evaluate intracameral injection of mydriatics in phacoemulsification cataract surgery and compare the results with those of conventional topical mydriatics. ⋯ Intracameral mydriatics were a rapid, effective, and safe alternative to topical mydriatics in phacoemulsification. Their use can simplify preoperative routines and in certain high-risk groups, may reduce the risk for cardiovascular side effects.
