Randomized Controlled TrialImpact of advance directives and a health care proxy on doctors' decisions: a randomized trial.
Advance directives or proxy designations are widely recommended, but how they affect doctors' decision making is not well known. ⋯ Advance directives and proxy opinions are equally effective in influencing doctors' decisions, but having both has the strongest effect. The format of the advance directive and the identity of the proxy have little influence on decisions.

ReviewPrevalence, impact, and treatment of death rattle: a systematic review.
Death rattle, or respiratory tract secretion in the dying patient, is a common and potentially distressing symptom in dying patients. Health care professionals often struggle with this symptom because of the uncertainty about management. ⋯ Death rattle is a rather common symptom in dying patients, but it is doubtful if patients suffer from this symptom. Current literature does not support the standard use of antimuscarinic drugs in the treatment of death rattle.

Multicenter StudyUse and perceived benefits of complementary therapies by cancer patients receiving conventional treatment in Italy.
In Italy, data regarding the use of complementary therapies (CTs) among patients with cancer are sparse and discordant. ⋯ Overall prevalence of CTs among Italian cancer patients is high and is in accordance with the European average. In addition to clinical and sociodemographic factors, the resilience trait SOC also was associated with CT use.
