Randomized Controlled TrialYokukansan for treatment of preoperative anxiety and prevention of postoperative delirium in cancer patients undergoing highly invasive surgery. J-SUPPORT 1605 (ProD Study): A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
No standard preventive or therapeutic methods have been established for preoperative anxiety and postoperative delirium in patients with cancer. ⋯ In patients with cancer undergoing highly invasive surgeries, yokukansan demonstrated no significant efficacy for the treatment of preoperative anxiety or the prevention of postoperative delirium. Yokukansan is already used in daily practice in Japan, but we should be careful with its future use.

Randomized Controlled TrialA Population-based Mortality Follow-Back Survey Evaluating Good Death for Cancer and Non-cancer Patients: A Randomized Feasibility Study.
Evaluation of end-of-life care is a key element in quality improvement, and population-based mortality follow-back designs have been used in several countries. This design was adapted to evaluate a good death in Japan. ⋯ This study demonstrated the feasibility of conducting a population-based mortality follow-back survey using a randomized design. An attached pen with the questionnaire was effective in improving the response rate.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe effect of disclosing life expectancy information on patients' prognostic understanding: secondary outcomes from a multicenter randomized trial of a palliative chemotherapy educational intervention.
Many advanced patients with cancer have unrealistic prognostic expectations. ⋯ Offering LE information within a PC educational intervention had no effect on patients' prognostic expectations.

Randomized Controlled TrialSurrogate Decision Maker Stress in Advance Care Planning Conversations: A Mixed-Methods Analysis from a Randomized Controlled Trial.
Spokespersons serving as surrogate decision makers for their loved ones report high levels of stress. Despite known benefits, advance care planning (ACP) conversations often do not occur. More information is needed to understand spokesperson stress during ACP. ⋯ Identifying what factors impact spokesperson stress in ACP conversations can be used to help design ACP interventions to more appropriately address the needs and concerns of spokespersons.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Feasibility and Acceptability of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-based intervention for Patients with Advanced Colorectal Cancer.
Advanced colorectal cancer and its treatment can bring about challenges associated with psychological distress. ⋯ The CBT-based intervention was feasible and acceptable to patients in Singapore. There is no sufficient evidence to warrant a larger trial in this sample with low baseline distress. Future work should identify and target those who are most in need of support.
