Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Comparison of Two Pediatric Early Warning Systems: A Randomized Trial.
Pediatric early warning systems (PEWS) are used to detect clinical deterioration in hospitalized children. Few PEWSs have been validated in multicenter studies and the performance in many single-center studies varies. We wanted to compare two PEWS in a multicenter study. ⋯ The results from this study should be interpreted with caution as very few patients experiencing clinical deterioration and further studies should also focus on challenges trying to evaluate PEWS.

The Influence of Context on Utilizing Research Evidence for Pain Management in Jordanian Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU).
The purpose of this study was to gain a beginning understanding of the contextual factors that influence the use of research for pain management in Jordanian Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs). ⋯ Concentrating on modifiable contextual factors may positively influence Jordanian PICU nurses' use of research for pain management. This influence may extend to reduce children's pain in Jordanian PICUs.

Factors Influencing Parental Participation in Neonatal Pain Alleviation.
Neonates are likely to experience numerous painful procedures in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Parents have expressed a wish to be more involved in their infants' pain alleviation. The purpose of this study was to describe parents' perceptions concerning the factors that influence parental participation in pain alleviation in an NICU. ⋯ Parents should be engaged as partners in caregiving and decision making, and they should be given space to assume the role of parents during their child's hospitalization.

Pediatric emergency nurses' self-reported medication safety practices.
Preventable adverse events occur more frequently in areas such as the emergency department with medication errors as the most frequently reported errors. A cross-sectional survey design was used to gather descriptive data of medication safety practices used by pediatric emergency nurses in the Midwest U. S. ⋯ Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Participants identified several barriers to adopting and implementing the NPSGs. Additional interventions are needed to reduce the barriers to medication safety practices for pediatric emergency nurses.

One-on-one coaching to improve pain assessment and management practices of pediatric nurses.
Pain in children is infrequently assessed and managed by nurses. One-on-one coaching based on audit with feedback and the use of opinion leaders have been effective in changing professional health care practices. ⋯ However, there were significant site differences that could not be attributed to the coaching but to factors inherent in the sites. The context in which interventions are implemented will influence the effectiveness of individualized interventions.
