Review Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Network meta-analysis of liraglutide versus dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in Japanese patients.
To determine the comparative efficacy and safety of liraglutide and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors as antidiabetics for Japanese patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (T2DM). ⋯ Our research suggests that liraglutide 0.9 mg offers a more efficacious treatment option for T2DM than the DPP-4 inhibitors among adult Japanese patients and that it is a viable option for this population.

Comparison of palbociclib in combination with letrozole or fulvestrant with endocrine therapies for advanced/metastatic breast cancer: network meta-analysis.
Palbociclib is the first cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor approved in the United States for HR+/HER2- advanced/metastatic breast cancer, in combination with letrozole as initial endocrine-based therapy in postmenopausal women or with fulvestrant in women with disease progression following endocrine therapy. We compared progression-free survival (PFS) and discontinuations due to adverse events for palbociclib combinations against other endocrine therapies using a mixed-treatment comparison meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials. ⋯ The results suggest that the two palbociclib combinations yielded significantly greater PFS than endocrine therapy in treatment-naïve and previously treated patients with advanced/metastatic breast cancer. Palbociclib plus fulvestrant was associated with significantly less toxicity than everolimus plus exemestane.

Efficacy and safety of tapentadol prolonged release for moderate-to-severe chronic osteoarthritis knee pain: a pooled analysis of two double-blind, randomized, placebo- and oxycodone controlled release-controlled studies.
To compare efficacy and safety of tapentadol prolonged-release (PR) and oxycodone-controlled release (CR) in moderate-to-severe chronic osteoarthritis knee pain. ⋯ The analyses suggest that tapentadol PR provided superior pain relief and a more improved overall health status than oxycodone CR in a large patient population with moderate-to-severe chronic osteoarthritis pain. Compared to oxycodone CR, tapentadol PR showed a more favorable tolerability profile with better gastrointestinal tolerability.

Efficacy of Bifidobacterium infantis 35624 in patients with irritable bowel syndrome: a meta-analysis.
The treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a challenge because its cause remains unknown. Previous clinical trials to examine the efficacy of probiotic Bifidobacterium infantis 35624 (B. infantis) in patients with IBS have shown inconsistent findings. This study aimed to assess the combined effect of B. infantis on reducing the symptom severity of IBS based on the published data. ⋯ Composite probiotics containing B. infantis might be an effective therapeutic option for IBS patients, which could significantly alleviate the symptoms of IBS without significant adverse effects. However, the efficacy of single probiotic B. infantis on IBS has not been confirmed yet, which needs to be further validated by more large-sized randomized clinical trials.

Restrictive versus liberal blood transfusion in patients with coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis.
To compare clinical outcomes between restrictive versus liberal blood transfusion strategies in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). ⋯ The findings suggest that restrictive blood transfusion was associated with higher in-hospital and 30 day mortality than liberal blood transfusion in CAD patients. The conclusions are mainly based on retrospective studies and should not be considered as recommendation before they are supported by randomized controlled trials.
