The prevalence of hypothyroidism in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is significantly higher than that in the common public. While SLE itself can affect multiple organs, abnormal thyroid function may exacerbate organ damage in patients with SLE. We aimed to predict abnormal thyroid function and to examine the associated factors with multiple machine learning approaches. ⋯ Random Forest model performed best and is recommended for selecting vital indices and assessing clinical complications of SLE, it indicated that anti-SSB and anti-dsDNA antibodies may play principal roles in the development of hypothyroidism in SLE patients. It's feasible to build an accurate machine learning model for early diagnosis or risk factors assessment in SLE using clinical parameters, which would provide a reference for the research work of SLE in China.

This study aimed to assess COVID-19 knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) among healthcare workers (HCWs) in northwest Malaysia and recognize the challenges faced working during the Movement Control Order (MCO). Commonly referred to as "MCO", this order enforcement is a series of national quarantine and cordon sanitaire measures implemented by the federal government of Malaysia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as of 18th March 2020. It is akin to a national lockdown. ⋯ Generally, HCWs in Perlis had good KAP with regards to COVID-19 infection and its preventive measures. Challenges underlined by HCWs while working during the MCO were increased workload, difficulty to shop for daily essentials, exercise and meet with family members. Should good COVID-19 KAP be sustained, they might contribute to success in combating this disease.

We aimed to gather multi-stakeholder insights on key issues relating to plain language summaries (PLS) of company-sponsored medical research to inform future industry recognized guidelines. ⋯ Key issues identified by stakeholders provide broad insights into the real and perceived barriers relating to PLS uptake. Each emerging theme presents a possible action that could accelerate PLS uptake and facilitate sharing of new medical research with lay audiences.

Most human diseases are accompanied by systems changes. Systems biomarkers should reflect such changes. The phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of biomolecules maintain human homeostasis. However, the systems biomarker characteristics of circulating alkaline phosphatase, a routine blood test conducted for many human diseases, have never been investigated. ⋯ Alkaline phosphatase was a decent systems biomarker for 19 different types of human diseases. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of over-up-and-down-regulation of ALP activities might be the key to understanding the whole-body systems' reactions during specific disease progression.

At this time in history fraught with restrictions and issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the care and management of chronic therapies is a major concern for society. The objective of the following study was to assess whether adherence and persistence in patients treated with hypoglycaemic drugs and statins during 2020 changed in comparison with pre-pandemic years. ⋯ The adherence figure did not change much, unlike the persistence figure. In fact, during 2020, the great impact that COVID-19 had on follow-up visits, on the availability of drugs, and on the difficulty of access to health facilities resulted in chronic patients abandoning therapy.
