Multicenter Study[EAHFE (Epidemiology Acute Heart Failure Emergency) study: analysis of the patients with echocardiography performed prior to an emergency visit due to an episode of acute heart failure].
Analyze the clinical profile and short-term evolution of the patients attended in the Spanish Hospital Emergency Services (SHES) due to an episode of acute heart failure (AHF) based on whether these patients had undergone or not an echocardiography and on the ventricular function estimated in said ultrasonography. ⋯ The patients who had an episode of AHF did not have any previous echocardiography in a high number of cases. This fact made it necessary in these cases to carry out the therapeutic management in the SHES guided only by the signs and symptoms, such as systolic blood pressure on their arrival to the emergency service. In spite of this, the fact that the functional state of the left ventricular was not known did not affect the intra-hospital mortality, at 30-days and readmission.

Multicenter Study[Seroprevalence of chronic viral hepatitis markers in 791 recent immigrants in Catalonia, Spain. Screening and vaccination against hepatitis B recommendations].
The prevalence of chronic viral hepatitis in the European Union (EU) will vary because of the immigrants coming from countries having an elevated with a higher endemicity of hepatitis B (HBV) and C virus (HCV). Serologic screening in healthy immigrants is a subject that has been discussed in the areas of feasibility, ethics and cost-effectiveness. The main study aims were: a) to know the prevalence of chronic hepatitis markers and, b) to determine the best cost-effectiveness strategy of vaccination against hepatitis B. ⋯ The prevalence of chronic viral hepatitis markers is found to be at an intermediate level between those described by primary and specialized care levels. The prevalences of HBsAg+ and anti-HC+ in the immigrant population, on the whole, are such that it is advisable to screening for them, with the exception of the Latin American community. Previous serologic determination of markers is only cost-effective among the sub-Saharan community.

Multicenter Study[Prevalence of vertebral fractures in hip fracture patients].
Fractures are the clinical complication of osteoporosis. There are no previous studies that describe the prevalence of vertebral fractures (VF) in patients admitted into a hospital due to a hip fracture (HF). ⋯ Elderly women admitted to a hospital due to hip fracture have a very high prevalence of previously undiagnosed VF. Indeed, elderly women admitted into the hospital because of other diseases also have a high prevalence of VF. These facts must be taken into account due to the morbidity and mortality of VF, that increases the HF morbidity and mortality.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Diagnosis and ambulatory treatment of patients with community-acquired pneumonia: variability of complementary tests and study of the effectiveness of roxithromycin. Study Group on Ambulatory Treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia (NACTA)].
Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) has been the subject of a number of studies. Nevertheless, studies focused on effectiveness of therapy and variability of diagnostic tests are scarce. ⋯ The variability of diagnostic tests used in patients with CAP is remarkable but their yield is of little effect. Patients with CAP candidates for ambulatory therapy can receive empiric antibiotic therapy with roxithromycin. In this series, roxithromycin had a high clinical effectiveness and was well tolerated.
