Multicenter Study Observational StudyEpidemiology and clinical outcomes of invasive mould infections in Indian intensive care units (FISF study).
Due to limited data on invasive mould infections (IMIs) in the intensive care units (ICUs) of developing countries, we ascertain epidemiology and management of IMIs at 11 ICUs across India. ⋯ The study highlights the distinct epidemiology of IMIs in India ICUs with high burden, new susceptible patient groups and considerable number of non-Aspergillus mould infections. [clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02683642].

Multicenter Study Observational StudyPersistently high circulating tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-1 levels in non-survivor brain trauma injury patients.
Previously, higher circulating levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and tissue inhibitor matrix metalloproteinases (TIMP)-1 were reported in the first hours after TBI in blood samples from patients with poor prognosis. Thus, the objectives of this study were to determine whether MMP-9 and TIMP-1 levels during the first week of a severe TBI could be used as biomarker predictive of mortality. ⋯ The most relevant new findings of our study were that TIMP-1 levels during the first week of a severe TBI were higher in non-surviving than in surviving patients and that could be used as biomarker predictive of mortality.

Multicenter StudyUsefulness of a quantitative analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid volume proportion in brain computed tomography for predicting neurological prognosis in cardiac arrest survivors who undergo target temperature management.
Brain swelling post-cardiac arrest may affect cerebrospinal fluid volume. We aimed to investigate the prognostic performance of the proportion of cerebrospinal fluid volume (pCSFV) using brain computed tomography (CT) in cardiac arrest survivors. ⋯ pCSFV was independently associated with neurological outcome 6 months following cardiac arrest, however prognostic performance was not good.

Multicenter StudyImmature granulocytes: A novel biomarker of acute respiratory distress syndrome in patients with acute pancreatitis.
To investigate the relationship between immature granulocyte percentage (IG%) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in patients with acute pancreatitis (AP). ⋯ IG% is a new type of biomarker for ARDS in patients with AP, which may promote timely and efficient identification of individuals at high risk for ARDS in the early stages of disease.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of outcomes and costs between adult diabetic ketoacidosis patients admitted to the ICU and step-down unit.
There is wide variation in the utilization of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds for treatment and monitoring of adult patients with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). We sought to compare the outcomes and hospital costs of adult DKA patients admitted to ICUs as compared to those admitted to step-down units. ⋯ Adult DKA patients admitted to a step-down unit had comparable in-hospital mortality and lower hospital costs as compared to those admitted to the ICU.
