Outcomes of critically ill patients with acute kidney injury in COVID-19 infection: an observational study.
Early reports indicate that AKI is common during COVID-19 infection. Different mortality rates of AKI due to SARS-CoV-2 have been reported, based on the degree of organic dysfunction and varying from public to private hospitals. However, there is a lack of data about AKI among critically ill patients with COVID-19. ⋯ Critically ill patients with SARS and AKI due to COVID-19 had high mortality in this cohort. Mortality was largely determined by the need for mechanical ventilation and vasopressors rather than AKI severity.

The effect of music therapy during shockwave lithotripsy on patient relaxation, anxiety, and pain perception.
To research the effect of listening to music during shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) on the patient's pain control, anxiety levels, and satisfaction. ⋯ Music lowered the anxiety and pain scores of patients during SWL and provided greater satisfaction with treatment. Completing this procedure while the patient listens to music increases patient compliance greatly and reduces analgesic requirements.

Factors related to fatigue in Chinese patients with end-stage renal disease receiving maintenance hemodialysis: a multi-center cross-sectional study.
Fatigue is considered as a common symptom in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and can significantly decrease patients' quality of life. This study aimed to assess fatigue in hemodialysis patients and to investigate risk factors of fatigue in Chinese patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) in China. ⋯ Fatigue is related to sleep disturbance, social and family functioning, taking physical exercise time, comorbidity condition, Kt/V and serum creatinine level in Chinese MHD patients. Future studies and interventions should focus on developing strategies and improving the quality of life in patients by addressing these significant contributing factors.

Hypocalcemia is very common in critically ill patients. While the effect of ionized calcium (iCa) on outcome is not well understood, manipulation of iCa in critically ill patients is a common practice. We analyzed all-cause mortality and several secondary outcomes in patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) by categories of serum iCa among participants in the Acute Renal Failure Trial Network (ATN) Study. ⋯ Severe hypocalcemia with iCa<1 mmol/L independently predicted mortality in patients with AKI needing renal replacement therapy.

Epidemiology of postoperative acute kidney injury in Hungarian intensive care units: an exploratory analysis.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence and outcome of postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) after major noncardiac surgery in Hungarian intensive care units (ICUs). ⋯ The results of this study confirm that there is a high incidence of AKI following major noncardiac surgery, which is associated with higher ICU and in-hospital mortality.
