Case Reports
Thoracic epidural analgesia via the caudal approach using nerve stimulation in an infant with CATCH22.
To illustrate insertion of an epidural catheter via caudal route in a small infant under electrical stimulation guidance. ⋯ Epidural stimulation may help placement of the epidural catheter at the appropriate dermatome for effective anesthesia and analgesia.

To describe a case of transient lingual and hypoglossal nerve damage following intubation for a trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy. ⋯ This is a report of a very rare complication of lingual and hypoglossal nerve damage in an acromegalic patient. This incident suggests forceful laryngoscopy, hyperextension of the head and the throat pack (tightly packed in the oropharynx) can result in injury of the lingual and the hypoglossal nerves.

To study the effect of hypoxia and hyperoxia on the pharmacokinetics of propofol emulsion, hepatic blood flow and arterial ketone body ratio in the rabbit. ⋯ Hypoxia produced an accumulation of propofol in blood and reduced propofol clearance. These changes could result from decreased hepatic blood flow and low cellular energy charge in the liver. Hyperoxia, on the other hand, increased total ketone body in arterial blood.

Epidural block with mepivacaine before surgery reduces long-term post-thoracotomy pain.
To examine the effect of continuous epidural block initiated before thoracic surgery upon early and long-term postoperative pain. ⋯ Continuous epidural block initiated prior to surgery may reduce long-term post-thoracotomy pain.
