Transdermal diclofenac patch vs eutectic mixture of local anesthetics for venous cannulation pain.
To compare the efficacy and side effects of transdermal diclofenac patch with eutectic mixture of local anesthetic (EMLA) cream in attenuating venous cannulation pain. ⋯ Transdermal diclofenac patch and EMLA are equally effective in reducing venous cannulation pain, but signs of erythema, induration and edema are less frequently observed with the transdermal diclofenac patch.

To provide a narrative review of the physician experience of medical malpractice litigation applied to an anesthesiology case with particular emphasis on the role played by medical expert witnesses. ⋯ The legal process for resolving patient claims against physicians is well delineated and transparent; its operational features are complex and prejudiced by severe outcomes. Bias is pervasive in the analysis of medical occurrences and may result in findings against caregivers which are unfair.

The purpose of this study was to determine if intrathecal landiolol, a beta1-blocker, can modulate formalin-induced nociception and spinal c-Fos expression in mice, in the absence of anesthesia. ⋯ The present study indicates that intrathecally administered landiolol produces significant antinociceptive effects in the formalin test. Although further studies exploring the detailed mechanism are needed, these data suggest a potential role of beta1-adrenoreceptors in spinal nociceptive processing.

Ultrasound guidance improves success rate of axillary brachial plexus block.
The purpose of this study is to determine if real time ultrasound guidance improves the success rate of axillary brachial plexus blockade. ⋯ This study demonstrates that ultrasound guidance, with or without concomitant nerve stimulation, significantly improves the success rate of axillary brachial plexus block.
