Applied forces with direct versus indirect laryngoscopy in neonatal intubation: a randomized crossover mannequin study.
In adult mannequins, videolaryngoscopy improves glottic visualization with lower force applied to upper airway tissues and reduced task workload compared with direct laryngoscopy. This trial compared oropharyngeal applied forces and subjective workload during direct vs indirect (video) laryngoscopy in a neonatal mannequin. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05197868); registered 20 January 2022.

Efficacy of a propofol bolus against placebo to prevent cough at emergence from general anesthesia with desflurane: a randomized controlled trial.
Emergence from anesthesia is a critical period and cough can result in adverse effects. Propofol inhibits airway reflexes and when infused it reduces cough more than inhalation anesthesia does. We evaluated the effect of a propofol bolus given at emergence on the incidence of coughing following a desflurane-based anesthesia. ⋯ In the present trial, a propofol bolus administered at emergence did not reduce the incidence of cough occurring between T0 and T5 following a desflurane-based general anesthesia compared with placebo.

Occupational therapist-guided cognitive interventions in critically ill patients: a feasibility randomized controlled trial.
Intensive care unit (ICU) delirium is a common complication of critical illness requiring a multimodal approach to management. We assessed the feasibility of a novel occupational therapist (OT)-guided cognitive intervention protocol, titrated according to sedation level, in critically ill patients. ⋯ gov (NCT03604809); registered 18 June 2018.

Comparison of the efficacy of costoclavicular space brachial plexus blockade with 0.5% versus 0.375% ropivacaine: a randomized, double-blind, single-centre, noninferiority clinical trial.
Recently, more attention has been given to the costoclavicular space (CCS) as an alternative pathway for ultrasound-guided brachial plexus block (BPB). While 0.5% ropivacaine was used in most related studies, research has shown effective ultrasound-guided supraclavicular BPB using lower local anesthetic concentrations, and our preliminary data have indicated that 0.375% ropivacaine may be effective when given in the CCS. Hence, we hypothesized that the efficacy of 0.375% ropivacaine would be noninferior compared with 0.5% in ultrasound-guided BPB via the CCS. ⋯ chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR20000306570); registered 8 March 2020.

Health economic evaluation alongside the Probiotics to Prevent Severe Pneumonia and Endotracheal Colonization Trial (E-PROSPECT): a cost-effectiveness analysis.
We sought to compare the cost-effectiveness of probiotics and usual care with usual care without probiotics in mechanically ventilated, intensive care unit patients alongside the Probiotics to Prevent Severe Pneumonia and Endotracheal Colonization Trial (PROSPECT). ⋯ gov (NCT01782755); registered 4 February 2013.
