Diets with a high glycemic index (GI) leading to elevated postprandial glucose levels and hyperinsulinemia during pregnancy have been inconsistently linked to an increased risk for large-for-gestational-age (LGA) births. The effects of prepregnancy dietary GI on LGA risk are, to our knowledge, unknown. We examined the association of prepregnancy dietary GI with LGA births and joint associations of GI and maternal overweight/obesity and infant sex with LGA births among 10 188 infants born without congenital anomalies from 1997 to 2011, using data from the National Birth Defects Prevention Study (NBDPS). The aim of this study was to investigate this association among infants without major congenital anomalies (controls) who participated in the NBDPS and to evaluate how prepregnancy BMI and infant sex may modify this association on the additive scale. ⋯ High prepregnancy maternal GI was not associated with LGA births independently of or jointly with other factors.

Despite recommendations to implement nutrition standards in schools, low-nutrient foods and high-energy drinks are still some of the most important challenges for school management and students' purchasing and consumption behavior. In this regard, the aim of the present study is to examine school nutrition policies and their effect on the promotion of low-nutrient foods in the context of sports advertising. ⋯ These findings suggest that advertising through sports media plays a mediating role in school nutrition policies and student nutritional involvement. Policy changes to restrict food marketing for young people must include both television and non-broadcast media.

The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the nutritional status of women with stage I to III breast cancer in the first and third cycles of outpatient chemotherapy and to identify factors associated with it. ⋯ This study highlights the complex interaction between nutritional status, neuropsychological symptoms, and sociodemographic characteristics in breast cancer patients during chemotherapy, and underscores the need for personalized interventions to improve oncological care.

Sarcopenic obesity (SO) is a clinical condition in which sarcopenia and obesity occur together, and is associated with more poor clinical outcomes, increased mortality, and morbidity than sarcopenia. Phase angle (PhA), a parameter derived from bioimpedance analysis (BIA), provides data on cellular health, membrane integrity, and cellular function. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between SO and PhA among older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). ⋯ The study identified a significant relationship between SO and PhA among older adults with type 2 DM. However, larger prospective studies are needed to confirm the potential utility of PhA as a biomarker for SO.

Cross-sectional evidence has demonstrated that parallel reactance obtained by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) may be an alternative to the regularly used series of measurements to predict intracellular water (ICW) in athletes. However, we are not aware of any studies that have determined the predictive role or compared the effectiveness of both series and parallel reactance for tracking ICW changes during an athletic season. The main aim of this study was to determine the predictive role and compare both series and parallel reactance (Xc) in tracking ICW during an athletic season. ⋯ Our findings highlight the potential of parallel BIA values to detect changes in body water compartments over a competitive season. These data provide preliminary evidence that changes in parallel Xc/H, and ultimately CAP, represent valid markers of alterations in cell volume during a sports season.
