Can. J. Gastroenterol. · Oct 2008 Multicenter StudyPrognosis of gastric cancer patients with node-negative metastasis following curative resection: outcomes of the survival and recurrence. The purpose of the present study was to provide valuable prognostic information on lymph node-negative gastric cancer patients following curative resection. ⋯ The prognosis of lymph node-negative gastric cancer patients was better than that of lymph node-positive gastric cancer patients. Male sex, subtotal gastrectomy and nonserosal involvement should be considered to be the favourable predictors of postoperative long-term survival of lymph node-negative gastric cancer patients. Conversely, limited lymphadenectomy, few dissected nodes and serosal involvement should be considered to be risk factors of postoperative recurrence of lymph node-negative gastric cancer patients.

Can. J. Gastroenterol. · Jun 2005 Multicenter Study Comparative StudyValidation of a short questionnaire in English and French for use in patients with persistent upper gastrointestinal symptoms despite proton pump inhibitor therapy: the PASS (Proton pump inhibitor Acid Suppression Symptom) test. The management of persistent symptoms during acid suppression therapy in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease or dyspepsia might be improved if patient-physician communication regarding the presence and character of these persistent symptoms were facilitated. ⋯ The five-item PASS test is a valid tool for the evaluation of persistent acid-related symptoms in patients receiving PPI therapy. It demonstrates good content validity, test-retest reliability, responsiveness and construct validity in both English and French forms. The PASS test is a simple, clinically applicable tool for the identification of patients with persistent acid-related symptoms during therapy and the assessment of their responses to a change in therapy.

Can. J. Gastroenterol. · Sep 2003 Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialA randomized trial comparing seven-day ranitidine bismuth citrate and clarithromycin dual therapy to seven-day omeprazole, clarithromycin and amoxicillin triple therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. To assess Helicobacter pylori eradication after one week dual ranitidine bismuth citrate-clarithromycin (RBC-C) or triple omeprazole, clarithromycin and amoxicillin (OCA) therapy. ⋯ The eradication rate for the seven-day dual RBC-C regimen was lower than that for OCA.

Can. J. Gastroenterol. · May 2003 Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialValidation of the GSFQ, a self-administered symptom frequency questionnaire for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease.Although the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is based primarily on symptoms experienced by a patient, relatively little attention has been paid to the development and validation of self-administered questionnaires specific to GERD symptoms. The present article presents the validation of the short, self-administered GERD Symptom Frequency Questionnaire (GSFQ). ⋯ The GSFQ is a short, self-administered, easy to use, GERD-specific questionnaire which should be considered as a useful assessment tool in the evaluation of patients with GERD and in the assessment of treatment outcomes.
